Personal Workspaces (Legacy)

Prior to February 2023, when a user signs up for a Bitbucket Cloud account, a workspace is automatically created by Bitbucket for the user. This workspace automatically created by Bitbucket (and not manually by the user) is called a personal workspace.

(info) Please note that we no longer create personal workspaces for the new users signed up for Bitbucket Cloud after February 2023.

The workspace ID of a personal workspace can be changed to be the same as the username of the account it's associated with. There are a few different features of the team workspace; for example, the automatic execution of GC that can be enabled on the Labs feature only works on personal workspaces. Personal workspaces can have their own oAuth consumer. Personal workspaces can have their plan changed to any of the tiers, Free, Standard, and Premium. However, they can't acquire the annual plan, as this is a feature exclusive to the shared workspace.

Shared/Team Workspaces

As of February 2023, this is the only type of workspace that can be created. This type of workspace can be created anytime, and all workspaces that are created on the Bitbucket account are team workspaces since you can't create a personal one. Users do not directly login to a shared workspace as there is no unique email address associated with shared workspaces, however a team workspace is allowed multiple administrators with full control. Users with access to a team workspace can navigate to any team workspace they have permissions to after logging into their own Bitbucket account. The workspace ID of a shared workspace must be unique across all the platforms (including other workspaces and usernames), so it can't be the same as an existing workspace or bitbucket account username. They can change annual plans to any of the tiers, Free, Standard, or Premium. The GC Labs feature does not work for shared workspaces but does work for personal ones.

Repository Transfer

In the Repository transfer process between the workspaces, the admin group receives the transfer email notification in the shared workspace. While in the personal workspace, only the owner gets the transfer email.
Even if other users are in the Administrators group, only the owner receives the transfer notification on the personal workspaces.
