Replacing the media picker with your system's file upload

We're removing the media picker dialog, which appears when you click the Files and images button in Jira and Confluence Cloud, and replacing it with your system’s built-in file upload dialog. We’ve observed that very few people use the media picker, with most people preferring to drag and drop or paste files onto pages and issues. You’ve also shared feedback with us that, in some cases, the media picker doesn’t work the way you’d like it to.

Importantly, you can still link to files from services like Dropbox and Google Drive. Paste a link to your page or issue and we’ll create a handy smart link to it so the latest version is always available.

Issue collector matches the submitter's user session differently in Chrome

ROLLING OUT

We’ve adapted our issue collectors to the Chrome browser’s new cookie security features and made some changes to how they work. The issue collector no longer matches a submitter’s user session to make them the reporter, but you can still match them by email address.

To improve issue security, project and issue keys are no longer displayed in the success message after submitting feedback on an issue collector (unless the project is open to anyone on the web).

New issue view: Estimates for time tracking apps

The new issue view now displays a field for the estimated time remaining when you use time tracking apps. To try it out, install your favorite time tracking app, go to an issue, and check it out yourself.

Support for third-party repositories and marketplace app integrations

Visualize your deployments in Jira for all projects

Do you want to use the Deployments feature for all of your Jira projects? Well, simply enable the feature from Project settings.

Then, the Deployments page will guide you through connecting the pipelines from your CI/CD provider for sending deployment data to Jira and visualize it on your existing project timeline.

Looping transitions get their own Actions button in the issue view

ROLLING OUT

Find and perform issue actions more easily with the new Actions button for looping transitions.

Looping transitions let you perform actions on issues while keeping the status the same. For example, you might have an issue in the “To Do” status and a transition called “Add customer details.” Choosing the “Add customer details” transition lets you add details while the status remains “To Do.” Those looped transitions, or actions, now have their own place in the issue view. This makes it clearer whether you’re actually changing the status of an issue or simply performing an action on the issue.

If you have one looping transition, it’ll appear as a button with the transition name next to the status menu at the top-right of the issue. If you have multiple looping transitions, they’ll appear in the same spot under an Actions menu.

Experience improved performance of Jira dashboard configuration

To improve the performance of Jira dashboard gadgets, we’ve removed Projects under Shared with in Advanced search when you’re selecting a filter from the filter directory for gadgets.

Protect your data from cross-origin export link leaks

ROLLING OUT

We’re rolling out a security patch from 2021-01-18 to keep your data safe from leaks by cross-origin export links. This security patch roll out will take up to two weeks, and may break custom tooling which fetches data from export links. If you’re a site admin or technical contact of an impacted instance, we’ve sent you an email with instructions for fixing any affected workflows. If you haven’t received any email, then there’s no action required.

No more context switching from the issue view to project settings just to change the fields for an issue type. You can now go straight to configuring fields from the issue view by selecting the Configure button.

Advanced Roadmaps for Jira - Fixed visibility of archived releases

We’ve fixed a bug that showed archived releases when setting up your plan. Since issues in archived releases can’t be included in plans, we’ve fixed the exclusion rules pages to accurately reflect this.

From March 31, 2021, we’ll begin moving all users to the new issue view in Jira Cloud products (Jira Software, Jira Service Desk, and Jira Core). Shortly after that, we’ll remove access to the old issue view. We’ve made great improvements to the new issue view in the past year and will continue to make it better before we remove the old one. Jira issue URLs are converted to smart links

ROLLING OUT

When you paste a Jira issue link into a Confluence page, the URL is converted to a smart link that displays the page icon and the page title. This works if the Jira and Confluence sites are linked or if they are both cloud versions.

Hiding the Like button on archived pages

ROLLING OUT

When you archive a page, you’re signaling to your team that this page is outdated or otherwise no longer relevant to current work. Since no one should be paying attention to or engaging with these pages, we’ve hidden the Like button so no new likes can be added.

You’ll still be able to see all likes the page accrued up until it was archived.

New loading experience for page buttons

We've improved the loading experience of page buttons like the "Edit" pencil, the star, and Share so they don't move around while the page is loading.

Archive all nested pages in one action

ROLLING OUT

Page archiving enters its next phase with nested archiving. For any page you archive, if it has any nested pages, you’ll have the option to include all of them with the original page selected. Pages archived together will maintain their visual hierarchy to preserve the context in which they were organized in the page tree.

You’ll have the same option to include all nested pages when restoring any page in the archive back to the page tree.

You can use nested archiving on the Premium plan.

Improvements to the people menu

We’re gradually rolling out some tweaks to the People menu. The Invite your teammates button is now named Add people. You’ll find the button a little further up the menu.

When you add new users to Confluence from the Add People button, your site settings determine whether they’re invited or sent an access request.

Recommending pages to archive

ROLLING OUT

We’ve added a notification email that’ll recommend archiving pages excluded by a bulk archiving action.

With the ability to archive a page and all of its nested pages (a whole branch of the page tree), sometimes not all pages in the branch can be included. This happens when the archiver either doesn’t have permission to view a nested page or doesn’t have permission to archive a nested page, which results in these pages being left behind in the page tree.

If you created any of these “left behind” pages, we’ll let you know in the email and give you a quick way to archive them!

Edit comments in Confluence for iPhone

You can now edit comments in Confluence, right from your iPhone or iPad.

Template previews in the editor

You can preview templates in the editor before you select them. Just hover over the name of the template you’d like to see.

Page actions have been reorganized

ROLLING OUT

When you are viewing a page, there are a lot of things that you can see and do. The more important and useful actions are represented as icons at the top of the page. Actions that you use less frequently or those that are used by fewer people are tucked away in the More actions ( ••• ) menu. The actions available there have been reorganized into more logical sections — actions, key metadata, and advanced details.

The following actions were removed as their functionality was achieved elsewhere:

  • Restrictions — use the lock icon to the left of the Share button.
  • Link to this Page — continue to use the shortcut key k to launch the Link to this Page modal, copy the page link from the Share dialog box, or copy the URL from the browser.
  • View in hierarchy — use the space sidebar to navigate to Space Settings > Content Tools > Reorder pages where you can view all pages in the space and reorder them.

If your site contains third-party actions, those will be at the bottom.

Bulk archive up to 500 pages at a time

To ensure Confluence performs at the highest level, we’ve limited the amount of pages you can bulk archive or bulk restore to 500 pages at a time. We hope to increase the limit soon!

Commenting on the mobile app has a new look (Android)

Commenting on Confluence Mobile has a fresh look. We've updated the look and feel for Like, Reply, and the overflow menu.

Confluence Premium: Bulk archive pages

For space admins on the premium plan, keeping your spaces tidy and up to date just got a lot easier with bulk archiving. You can archive up to 500 pages in a single action. Just look for Bulk Archive in your space’s sidebar to access the bulk archiving dashboard. Once in the dashboard, simply check the boxes next to the pages you want to archive and select the Archive button at the top.

Match the case when using find and replace

When using find and replace, Confluence now gives you the option to match the text case – giving you even more control.

Find the right page by seeing more info at a glance

ROLLING OUT

Trying to find a specific page is hard when you remember some things about it but you don’t remember what it’s called. Searching for it might seem challenging. What if you could see the pages in your space differently?

Select Pages in your space sidebar to get a quick, high-level view of the freshest pages in the space with enough info about the pages to help you find the right one — like who created it, when it was updated last, and a snippet of the first few lines on the page. If you don’t see what you need initially, you can do some filtering and sorting to really hone in on the right pages.

Table of Contents macro includes elements in the heading

Regardless of which editor you use, the Table of Contents macro displays the additional information you add to your heading text, like emojis, mentions, statuses, or dates.

Delete pages and blogs with confidence

Since deleting pages and blogs is an important decision, the experience has been updated to help you feel more confident. You’ll get more specific information about what will happen to the children of the page being deleted. A link to our product documentation was added to let you dig deeper into the details of the behavior. If your site provides the ability to archive pages, you’ll be presented with the opportunity to archive instead.

Automatically merge a pull request when all checks pass

Sometimes it can take a while to get all the builds and reviews required by pull request (PR) merge checks, so the PR author has to keep checking back to ensure all the checks pass in order to merge their changes. Now in the new pull request experience, the PR author or an admin can enable this feature to queue up a pending merge to be triggered automatically once all the merge checks have passed.
