Atlassian Cloud changes Mar 22 to Mar 29, 2021

These changes have recently been rolled out to Atlassian Cloud sites.

Changes labeled ROLLING OUT are being gradually rolled out and may not be on your site just yet.

Atlassian Cloud

Your cloud-hosted products are supported by the Atlassian Cloud platform. This section usually includes changes related to multiple Atlassian Cloud products, site administration, and user management.

Learn about the product with the 'Your coach' panel

ROLLING OUT

The Quick start panel is getting an upgrade - now you’ll be able to restart product tours, navigate directly to getting started documentation, and get up and running quickly using a checklist directly from within Jira Service Management and Opsgenie. Want to find the panel again? Go to your profile in the top right and select Your coach.

Jira platform

Changes in this section usually apply to all Jira products. We'll tell you in the change description if something is only for a specific Jira product.

New issue view: Comment bar now adjusts depending on activity sort

ROLLING OUT NEW THIS WEEK

In the new issue view's activity section, the comment bar will now automatically adjust positions depending on whether you sort activity by oldest or newest first. In particular, we now ensure that you can always comment right above or below the newest comment. This means that when you're updating your team, you'll always have the latest context right in front of you.

Improved security for the Get Filters REST endpoint

ROLLING OUT NEW THIS WEEK

We’ve rolled out a security patch to keep your data safe from anonymous access while using the deprecated Get Filters REST API. This REST API will no longer return your project names and owner information to unauthenticated users.

Updates to how you create projects in Jira

ROLLING OUT NEW THIS WEEK

Creating projects in Jira is now simpler with our new template library. Browse templates across the Jira products you own, with additional information to assist you in finding the template that best fits the way your team works.

Additionally, we’ve renamed our project types (next-gen and classic) to make them clearer and more descriptive:

  • Next-gen projects are now named team-managed projects. The functionality itself remains the same and continue to be ideal for independent teams who want to control their own working processes and practices in a self-contained space.
  • Classic projects are now named company-managed projects. Setup and maintained by Jira admins, company-managed projects remain the best choice for teams who want to work with other teams across many projects in a standard way, such as sharing a workflow.

Trash for Jira Software and Jira Core projects

NEW THIS WEEK

Accidentally deleting a project causes irrevocable data loss. We heard your concerns and we’ve changed the way you can delete your projects. To provide a safety net each time you delete a project, we’ve introduced a trash for projects. As Jira admins and project owners, you’ll have to move your projects to trash before you can permanently delete them. Projects remain in trash for 60 days after which they are permanently deleted.

Only Jira admins can access trash. From the trash, Jira admins can:

  • Restore a project that was moved to trash
  • Permanently delete a project
  • View when a project was moved to trash
  • View the user who moved the project to trash
  • View when a project will be permanently deleted

Advanced Roadmaps for Jira - Create new plans with ease

ROLLING OUT

It’s never been easier to create a plan with relevant issues for your planning needs. With the new plan creation wizard, we’ve streamlined the process and redesigned the look and feel. We’ve also added new pages to the Configure menu so you can easily edit the plan’s scope at any time.

New issue view: Estimates for time tracking apps

ROLLING OUT

The new issue view now displays a field for the estimated time remaining when you use time tracking apps. To try it out, install your favorite time tracking app, go to an issue, and check it out yourself.

New Issue View: Add web links to images

ROLLING OUT

In the new issue view’s editor, you can now add web links to images. This means that when you’re adding an image to a field or comment, you have the option to add a web link to the image too. When someone clicks an image with a web link, a new tab with the associated URL will be opened.

Advanced Roadmaps for Jira - Selective Scheduling

ROLLING OUT

Along with helping create an entire plan, you can now tell the Auto-scheduler to only schedule specific issues.

To use this new feature, select which issues you want Advanced Roadmaps to automatically schedule using the checkboxes in the Scope section of your plan. Then use the auto-scheduler like normal and it will only work its magic on those issues.

Learn more about how to use the Auto-scheduler.

  • Bitbucket repositories
  • A Confluence space
  • An Opsgenie team

Get insights into your cycle time for deployments

ROLLING OUT

Do you struggle with the latest information on how much time you take work to get from branch to production? Here you go with an advanced Insights panel inside your Deployments view. Get a thorough understanding of the Cycle time in the palm of your hand. Learn how to make the best use of the Insights panel.

Replacing the media picker with your system's file upload

ROLLING OUT

We're removing the media picker dialog, which appears when you click the Files and images button in Bitbucket Cloud, Confluence Cloud, and Jira Cloud products, and replacing it with your system’s built-in file upload dialog. We’ve observed that very few people use the media picker, with most people preferring to drag and drop or paste files onto pages and issues. You’ve also shared feedback with us that, in some cases, the media picker doesn’t work the way you’d like it to.

Importantly, you can still link to files from services like Dropbox and Google Drive. Paste a link on your page or issue and we’ll create a handy smart link to it so the latest version is always available.

You can read more about this change and leave feedback for the team in the Community post.

New issue view: Save time configuring multiple projects by copying field layouts

COMING SOON

No more duplicate field configuration work for admins! Jira admins can now copy field layouts for the new issue view in one project to any other that uses the same screen.

More specifically, in Jira Software Cloud, an issue layout can be copied to other projects that use the same screen. And In Jira Service Management Cloud, a request type's layout can be copied to other request types (including those in other projects) that use the same screen.

Jira Software

From March 31, 2021, we’ll begin moving all users to the new issue view in Jira Cloud products (Jira Software, Jira Service Desk, and Jira Core). Shortly after that, we’ll remove access to the old issue view. We’ve made great improvements to the new issue view in the past year and will continue to make it better before we remove the old one. For key dates, what’s next, and more details, check out our official announcement.

Anonymous access check for Jira Site Import

ROLLING OUT

This new security check will notify in advance if projects, dashboards, and filters are prone to anonymous access post migration. Anonymous access means that the data will be available to the public and searchable online. You can choose whether or not to grant public access before the migration.

To review affected projects, dashboards, and filters, you can download the .csv file.

Next-gen: Assign multiple statuses to a single column

ROLLING OUT

Like humans and their dogs, or keyboards and computers, columns and statuses have always been inseparable.

Until now. (Kinda.)

This feature gives you the ability to add more than one status to a single column. This supercharged, board-sorting experience means you can group together similar statuses and free up your board. It also means you can drop work into a new status, within the same column.

Less scroll. A neater board. And advanced config—this could be the best separation in a long time.

Learn more about configuring columns and statuses in your next-gen project.

Next-gen: Time estimation is on its way

ROLLING OUT

The whole shebang isn’t ready just yet, but that’s no reason to hold out on what we do have.

  2. From your project sidebar, select Project settings.
  3. In Project settings, select Issue types.
  4. In the Fields panel, select Original estimate.
  5. Drag, then drop the field where you’d like it to appear.
  6. Save, close, and estimate away!

Create and schedule future sprints

ROLLING OUT

Sprint planning is great when it’s done every couple of weeks.

But how satisfying (and helpful) is it when you can line up the work that needs to happen straight after? Create the sprint and pencil in the start and end dates. Your future self will thank you later.

To plan a future sprint:

  1. Navigate to your Jira software project.
  2. Select Backlog in the project menu on the left.
  3. Click Create sprint.
  4. Add dates to your sprint by selecting Add dates (✏️ ). Ta-da!

New issue view: Epic Status field is now available

ROLLING OUT

The Epic Status custom field can now be displayed on the new issue view. Just get your Jira admin to add the Epic Status field to a screen, and it'll be displayed on all issues using that screen (if the field isn't hidden by a project admin). Learn more about adding custom fields to screens.

Enabled deployments for all projects with SCM data

ROLLING OUT

When you have a Source Code Management (SCM) tool integrated with your Jira project, the Deployments feature will be enabled to give you visibility into your deployment pipelines against issues over a time scale.

The Knowledge base settings page has been updated - we’ve made some layout adjustments to refresh the page. Go to Project settings > Knowledge base to check it out.

Request approval from approvers associated with a service

When configuring approvals for a workflow in the new IT service management template, admins can now allow approvers associated with a service to flag, review, and approve changes to reduce the risk of impacting service quality. Learn how to request approval from approvers associated with a service.

Get started quicker with the 'Quickstart' panel

Knowing what to do first when you create a new kind of project can be tricky. That’s why we’ve introduced the Quickstart panel - a handy side panel filled with easy-to-follow steps and links to documentation to get you up and running as quickly as possible.

If you’d rather look at it later, then simply select Close Quickstart at the bottom of the panel - you can always open it back up through your Settings (cog) in the top right.

Set up a custom Microsoft email address using OAuth

ROLLING OUT

If you’re a Jira site admin, you can now add a custom Microsoft email account using OAuth instead of an application-specific password. Learn how to add a custom email account.

Confluence

Enhanced invite visibility

ROLLING OUT NEW THIS WEEK

Add your teammates from the People menu in the top navigation of Confluence and Jira Software.

A simpler way to create content

ROLLING OUT

Create a new page with just one click. Browse or search for templates right in the editor or get straight to work on a blank page.

Easily sort templates before selecting the right one

ROLLING OUT

When you create a new page, you can now select the best template for the kind of content you’re composing. To make this template browsing experience more efficient, we’ve added a Sort by selector. Browse the templates Confluence recommends based on your usage, or sort the templates alphabetically by title.

Use anchor macros in the new editor

ROLLING OUT

The Anchor macro is available in both editing experiences!

You can add a target to a page or blog so that a link can be created that jumps to that part of the page. This is useful when you want a link to take the reader to an image, row in a table, or paragraph.

New spaces are assigned a random icon

ROLLING OUT

To help people visually distinguish one space from another, the default icon assigned to a space will be chosen at random rather than every new space being assigned the same folder image. Space creators can change that default icon or upload their own. Existing spaces are unaffected by this change.

Table of Contents macro includes elements in the heading

ROLLING OUT

Regardless of which editor you use, the Table of Contents macro displays the additional information you add to your heading text, like emojis, mentions, statuses, or dates.

Modernized move page dialog

ROLLING OUT

Moving your published pages and blogs is an important decision. To help you feel more confident when doing this, the experience has been simplified and updated. A link to our product documentation was also added to support you in digging deeper into the details of the behavior.

People listed in page restrictions display alphabetically

ROLLING OUT

We’ve made it easier to peruse the lists of people in page restrictions. They’re alphabetical by the first letter of the person’s first name. So if you’re looking for someone in particular in a long list, you can hone in on them much more quickly by using where their name falls in the alphabet. It’s also much easier to tell if someone’s missing from the list.

View pages in your space differently

ROLLING OUT

Looking at the pages in a space as a tree is great when the relationships between pages are important to you, but now you have more options for how you view the pages in a space!

View pages differently by selecting ••• next to Pages in the space sidebar. Switching to another view removes the tree relationship and gives you a list of pages sorted by the date the page was last updated or alphabetically by title. The choice you make in a space persists until you change it.
