We’ve recently released the first iteration of being able to rename your cloud site. To see if you qualify, start by contacting support. Our team will then review the eligibility criteria prior to triggering your rename. In preparation for a site rename, please do not attempt to reserve your preferred name by signing up for a new site. This creates extra complexity in the process and will prolong the time required before your site can successfully be renamed.

If our support team isn't able to help with your site rename, you can still follow the steps below.

Overview

We don't currently support the ability to change the URL of your cloud site. Since this isn't supported, the workaround is to migrate to a new site with your desired URL. We have an active feature request which you can vote for and track progress on here:  CLOUD-7184 - Getting issue details... STATUS .

When creating your new site, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Site names are chosen for an entire Atlassian Cloud site at the time you sign up for your first Atlassian Cloud product – for example, when you first sign up for Jira Software Cloud or Confluence Cloud. The format for the site name is https://example.atlassian.net, where example is a unique character string that you specify.
    1. Your unique character string must be at least three characters.
    2. It can only contain letters, numbers, and hyphens.
    3. Hyphens can't be the first or last character.
    4. The use of entirely custom URLs is not supported at this time, but you can vote for the related feature request:  AOD-5311 - Getting issue details... STATUS

Confluence-only sites

  1. Sign up for a new cloud site with the desired URL.

  2. Follow the Create a site backup instructions to export data from your existing Confluence Cloud site.
  3. Follow the Import instructions to restore data into your new Confluence Cloud site.

Jira + Confluence sites

  1. Sign up for a new cloud site with the desired URL.

    Important

The Confluence site import option is not available with both Jira and Confluence active on the same cloud site.

To avoid this restriction, sign up for a new site with only Confluence enabled. Import your Confluence site following the steps above. Then add Jira applications to your cloud site and follow the Jira steps above

  2. Follow the Create a site backup instructions to export data from your existing Confluence Cloud site, or create a space-by-space export to XML following the Export Content to Word, PDF, HTML and XML steps.
  3. Follow the Import instructions to restore data into your new Confluence Cloud site, or refer to Import a Confluence space to import your space XMLs.
  4. Follow the Exporting issues instructions to export data from your existing Jira Cloud site.
  5. Follow the Importing issues instructions to restore data into your new Jira Cloud site.

Description Business or technical reasons require you to change the domain name (URL) for your Jira Cloud site. As this is not supported as an automated functionality, you will need to manually migrate to a new site with the desired URL. When creating a new site, be aware the instance name must be at least 3 characters long.
