This diagnostic alert is disabled by default, as it may have a performance impact on your site. Our support team may ask you to enable this alert when troubleshooting a specific problem.

This diagnostic alert warns you when rendering a macro on a page has exceeded a set time limit. For example if it took more than 30 seconds to render a Jira issues macro.

The following appears in the application log:

WARNING ; MACRO ; MACRO-1001 ; Rendering macro exceeded time limit ; System ;  ; com.atlassian.confluence.plugins.macros.advanced.recentupdate.RecentlyChangedContentMacro ; {...}

To resolve this issue

There's no action required for this alert. However, this information may be helpful when investigating an outage or issue such as a slow performing page or add-on.

Some things you could try:

  • If the macro is configurable, you may be able to change the parameters so that it displays less information.
  • If the macro is provided by a third party add-on (app), you may want to report the performance issue to the app vendor.

What will happen if I ignore this alert?

This alert is for information only. There's no direct action required, however if the macro does not load data asynchronously, it may block the whole page from loading, which would significantly impact users.

Can I change the threshold?

Yes, you can change the threshold of this alert using the following system property:

diagnostics.slow.macro.rendering.secs

See Configuring System Properties for more information on setting system properties.
