Symptoms
- When typing a large paragraph of text, there is a noticeable lag between typing and the characters appearing.
- Lag will also be noticeable when inserting other types of data such as images or macros.
- On Confluence 4.1, using find and replace within the editor can be slow when selecting find next or replace all.
Diagnosis
This is specific to editing a large paragraph in a Safari browser. A "typically" sized paragraph, commonly between 4 and 6 sentences, will show not display any lag.
Cause
Safari's built in spell-checking is taking too long to process a long paragraph of text.
Workaround
On Safari, go to Edit > Spelling and Grammar and uncheck the option Check Spelling While Typing.
