Need or Request for Amazon AMI

If you are planning to deploy into AWS, you may wish to modify or alter the specific AMI (Amazon Machine image) that is used by the normal CF (Cloud Formation) Templates that Atlassian has built specifically for the Deployment of Confluence Data Center within AWS.

AMI customization is not recommended for deployments. It is recommended instead to deploy your Confluence Data Center using the Cloud Formation Templates themselves which take advantage of the pre-built Confluence AMI. This document is intended only for those developers with a deep understanding of AMI and AWS that intend to assume the risks of modifying the AMI themselves. Please note that support will not be able to support customization and modification of the Atlassian-provided AMI, but will support the Atlassian AMI itself when used with the CF Templates.

Atlassian does allow clients to access the Source Code for the Confluence AMI, as this is publicly available.

From the AMI project page:

Contributing

Pull requests, issues and comments welcome. For pull requests:

  1. Add tests for new features and bug fixes
  2. Follow the existing style
  3. Separate unrelated changes into multiple pull requests
  4. See the existing issues for things to start contributing.
  5. For bigger changes, make sure you start a discussion first by creating an issue and explaining the intended change.

Licenses

Atlassian requires contributors to sign a Contributor License Agreement, known as a CLA. This serves as a record stating that the contributor is entitled to contribute the code/documentation/translation to the project and is willing to have it used in distributions and derivative works (or is willing to transfer ownership).

Prior to merging your pull requests, please follow the appropriate link below to digitally sign the CLA. The Corporate CLA is for those who are contributing as a member of an organization and the individual CLA is for those contributing as an individual.

Resolution

If you wish to pull from the Atlassian AMI and use that source, this is allowed, but our developers have not provided AMI documentation and are working with those individuals and corporations that sign the agreement above as required to further extend and develop the AMI through the Atlassian AWS Deployment Project.
