"Illegal character" ERROR when Trying to Create an Event in Team Calendars for Confluence

Symptoms

When trying to create a new event Team Calendars for Confluence, it throw the following Stack into the user interface

Illegal character in opaque part at index 24: MAILTO:<email>

The following appears in the atlassian-confluence.log:

2012-04-17 16:35:38,602 ERROR [http-8890-4] [extra.calendar3.rest.CalendarResource] doInTransaction Unable to create or update event Septa Cahyadiputra
 -- referer: http://10.60.1.146:8890/calendar/mycalendar.action | url: /rest/calendar-services/1.0/calendar/events.json | userName: disable
java.net.URISyntaxException: Illegal character in opaque part at index 24: MAILTO:<email address>

Cause

The cause of this issue is due to a whitespace at the end of the email registered for the user that create the event calendar

Resolution

Remove the whitespace at the end of the registered email address
