Note

With JCMA 1.11.2 , no dark features are needed. Please follow https://support.atlassian.com/migration/docs/how-cross-project-boards-and-filters-are-migrated/ going forward. This article will be archived in a couple of months.

Purpose

This document lists potential workarounds for migrating boards and filters using various versions of Jira Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA). We aim to equip you with possible scenarios and respective fixes to ensure the successful migration of all the boards and filters.

Environment

  • Jira Version 7.6 or later
  • JCMA version 1.9.0 or later

Background

JCMA versions differ in their handling of boards and filter migrations (known issue: MIG-1648). To help you manage this, we've put together a guide that provides solutions based on your JCMA version to migrate single-project and cross-project boards and filters efficiently.

Solution

The following table details the behavior of different JCMA versions during migration and suggests fixes accordingly:

JCMA version

Behavior with single project boards & filters

Behavior with cross-project boards & filters

How to fix

JCMA 1.10.9 & above

Partially migrates (Only those shared with the migrating projects)

Cross-project boards and filters are migrated

  1. Migrate your cross-project boards and filters first using the Only cross-project boards and filters related to selected projects option.

  2. To migrate missed boards and filters:

    1. Enable the dark feature com.atlassian.jira.migration.export.all.filters
    2. On your Jira Server instance, navigate to the URL: ${Jira_URL}/secure/admin/jira/views/SiteDarkFeatures!default.jspa
    3. Copy the text of the dark feature above.
    4. Select Add (a Jira restart is not required)

  3. Migrate a dummy project or an active project using All Cross Project Boards and Filters

Note: The dark feature will only work if the All Cross Project Boards & Filters option is used.

JCMA 1.10.0 - 1.10.8

Partially migrates (Only those shared with the migrating projects)

Cross-project boards and filters are migrated

To migrate the single project boards and filters not yet migrated (only those shared with a migrating project), upgrade to 1.10.9 or later and follow the instructions in the top row.

JCMA versions before 1.10.0

Partially migrates (Only those shared with the migrating projects)

Cross-project boards and filters are not migrated

Use the dark features from How to migrate all boards and filters with the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA) at the end or multiple times during a phased migration. These dark features would migrate all boards and filters.
