Problem

The following error is displayed when viewing a board.

The requested board cannot be viewed because it either does not exist or you do not have permission to view it.

The screenshot of the error is shown below.

Cause

The board is located in a project for which the user does not have access permissions. This happens only in the new Jira Experience.

Workaround

The following options may be employed as a workaround for this issue.

  • Option 1 - Ignore the error and the board should load; but the user needs to access the URL manually to navigate between the Active Sprint and Backlog.
  • Option 2 - Grant Browse Project permission (to the user) for the project configured as the location of the board.
  • Option 3 - Move the board to a project for which all users have access.
  • Option 4 - Create a dummy project with access for all users; move the board to this dummy project.

  • Option 5 - Check if the board filter is private and if you have permission to access it
