Jira Cloud for Microsoft Teams enables teams to plan, track, and release work from where collaboration happens most.

Let the Jira Cloud bot become your personal assistant to help you create, edit, and watch issues. Quickly search for and share Jira issues with your team to move conversations forward. See the latest progress on work via direct access to your backlogs and filters from Teams.

Summary of feature differences between cloud and server

  • All features from the Jira Server application are available in the cloud version.

  • Jira Service Management projects are accessible in the cloud version.

  • Jira Cloud links shared in a group or team channel will unfurl a card with key issue details.

Available features in the Jira Cloud for Microsoft Teams application

The Jira Cloud for Microsoft Teams application can be interacted with through the Jira Cloud chat bot, chat tabs, and the compose box.

Bot

The Jira Cloud bot can be used to help you create, edit, assign, search for, watch, add comments, and log work time to issues. Jira Cloud bots are accessible in group chats, team channels, and your direct messages. To perform these actions in group and channel chats, mention @Jira Cloud before specifying the command.

Tabs

Tabs provide simple access to filters from a Microsoft Teams chat tab.

  • Assigned to me’, ‘Reported by me’, ‘Watched by me’ and ‘My filters’ tabs are shown by default in the personal chat with the Jira application.

    • Assigned to me’, ‘Reported by me’ and ‘Watched by me’ tabs show issues assigned, reported and watched by the Jira user.

    • My filters’ displays a list of all owned and shared Jira filters for the user.

Jira Tabs can be added to group and team channels by selecting a saved Jira filter or creating a custom filter. Users can also create, edit, and comment on issues directly from a tab.

Compose box

Messaging Extension allows users to quickly search for and share specific Jira issues when composing a message. Jira issues can also be created using this feature.

Actionable message enables users to quickly create new issues from a chat message.

Issue urls sent in a message to the group chat or team channel unfurl cards with context about the issue. The unfurl displays key information such as summary, status, priority, updated date, reporter, and assignee. Cards are actionable and can be interacted with to watch, unwatch, assign, add a comment, vote, log work, or view more details directly from Microsoft Teams.

Migration steps

  1. Install Jira Cloud for Microsoft Teams add-on to Jira Cloud instance (requires administrator access).

  2. Install Jira Cloud application to Microsoft Teams tenant (it can be done centralized by the tenant administrator or by each user individually).

  3. Connect Jira Cloud instance to Microsoft Teams application, by using connect command (should be done individually by each user).

  4. Recreate tabs in chats and team channels. If you were using any configurable tabs for your Jira Server/Data Center integration you need to create tabs with the same filters for your Jira Cloud application.

  5. Configure Jira Cloud connectors for channels if you had configured Jira Server connectors for the Jira Server instance, to receive updates for the issues.
