This page discusses the usage of Portfolio for Jira live plans (any version from 2.0 to 2.27). If you're using the redesigned planning interface, see this page instead.

Portfolio for Jira allows you to configure your release dates in a few easy steps:

  1. Go to your plan via Portfolio (in header) > View Portfolio > click your plan.
  2. Click the Releases tab to display the releases section below the timeline.
  3. Create a new release or select an existing one.
  4. Select Edit.
  5. Configure the dates and close the window.

    Start DateDescription
As early as possibleThe release will start as soon as there are available resources.
Fixed dateRelease start date is set to the chosen date.
Relative to previous release dateThis option allows you to specify the amount of time gap that you want to leave once the previous release is finished and the works on the new one starts.
    Release DateDescription
Fixed dateRelease end date is set to the chosen date. In the graphical schedule you'll see a buffer if there is free capacity, or it will be shown as overbooked in red color.
Dynamic release dateThe release end date will be dynamically settled. The scheduler automatically fits in as many items as possible into the release based on their priority. The release can never get overbooked. Note that releases are not automatically assigned to dynamic release dates.
