If you're an admin, you've got a few options:

  • Log in to Hipchat in your browser then go to Group Admin > Users > Add, enter their details, and select their role.
(Click users' names to edit their details. You can add or remove them as admins here.)
  • Send an invite URL so people can sign themselves up. Log in to Hipchat in your browser then go to Group Admin > Info > Invite URL to grab the URL.
  • Add users from your Google Apps user directory.
  • Use the Hipchat API to create user accounts programmatically.

If you're a regular user, you can also invite people to Hipchat in the Mac desktop and web apps (unless your admin has turned off the feature).

In the web and Mac desktop apps

Click Invite your team at the top.

Inviting people to a room

It happens all the time, you're solving a problem, and just know that someone else in your team has the answers. Rather than starting a 1-to-1 chat with them, invite them to the room you're already chatting in.

If it's an open room, or a private room they're already a member of, the easiest way is to mention them in chat. If they're available they'll get a notification.

If it's a private room and they aren't a member of it, the room admin or a group admin will need to invite them to the room.

In the desktop and web apps
  1. Go to the room you want to invite people to.
  2. Click  > Invite users.
In the iOS mobile app
  1. Go to the room you want to invite people to.
  2. Tap > Invite.
In the Android mobile app
  1. Go to the room you want to invite people to.
  2. Tap > Invite people.
