Summary

In addition to the Help Center article Notifications and Search, which mainly demonstrates how to get to the Global Search interface, as intuitive as it may seem, at times we might want to better explore its capabilities.

This document describes a few additional useful search options.

Environment

Jira Align

Solution

Conventions

  • Global Search is dynamic. It means that the search happens as soon as you type something in. You don’t need to hit ENTER to make the search happen.

  • The global search acts towards in-scope work items only. They are the following:

    • Stories

    • Features

    • Capabilities

    • Epics

    • Themes

    • Dependencies

    • Risks

    • Sprints

    • Defects

Free-text search (default)

This is the default, standard search. Just type something in, and the Global Search will run a SQL full search in the Jira Align’s work items.

Search by ID

Type #<id> and the search will return all work items that have this ID.

It can be multiple responses as there can have many work items of different types sharing the same numerical ID.

Search by Jira issue ID

Assume you know a Jira issue ID and you want to find the corresponding Jira Align work item.

Just type in the Jira issue ID and the global search will present you with the corresponding synchronized work item.
