Symptoms

When using JIRA for tracking bugs, you may find that some of the issues are duplicated again and again over time. Quite often customers inquire "Is there a way to generate a report to show the bugs ranked by the frequency with which they appear?" and the answer for right now is, no, unfortunately.

Cause

We have no idea the frequency with which duplicates will appear, only the frequency that they're reported

Workaround

At this time, there isn't any automated way to do this, and it's actually something we have to deal with as well.  Most of the work is manual, as we have development leads that act as a "Bugmaster" who triage new bug reports and feature requests.  Part of their work is to link new tickets to existing ones if they exist; either as duplicates or related issues.  To make this easier, we also label those tickets and assign components, which allows for additional context when searching.
