This error pop-up is a warning message for an expected behavior that could be explained because for JSM projects the request types and issue types aren't related.

Therefore, JSM projects always deal with Request types, and hence respect the configuration from the request type configuration.

Thus, to provide a brief explanation about this behavior, it's important to note that, as mentioned in this document we can choose to show a form in three possible places: as part of the portal form when customers raise a request, to create new issues using a link, or recommended when adding forms to issues.

  • Request form: If you want to add a form to the portal, the form can be used on its own for raising requests, or used alongside existing Jira fields added to the Request type form(Project settings > Request types > Open a Request type > Go to Request form tab). The form will appear underneath any Jira fields that were added when configuring the request type.
  • Create new issue: You can choose to use the form to create new issues in Jira Service Management using a URL. This URL can be shared so that forms can be filled out by any licensed, logged-in Jira users and create issues. Regarding this option, please keep in mind, this will show only the form during the ticket creation and no other fields(Jira fields added to the request type form).

With that in mind, this error message('Required' field is not linked) is usually displayed when we are trying to enable the Form using the option 'Create New Issue'(Open the form > Go to Settings tab). This is because there's no direct link to a Request type form here, which is only available via the Portal. So, to use this option(Create New Issue), all fields set as required in the Request type form would need to be linked to a Form field in the form.

For example, this may lead to cases such as not being able to use this feature with the attachment field since Forms does not support attachment yet.

We will be providing support for attachments and other field types in the near future, for more information please refer to this feature request JSDCLOUD-10707 - Getting issue details... STATUS .

At the moment (in some cases), it will be necessary to split fields between the request form, and the additional Form.

You can see more details about Forms in the documentation below:
