Symptoms

1. New issues or changes do not appear when searching.
2. The Activity Stream is not updating.

Diagnosis

If the activity stream is not updating, try a search for recently created content. If the content does not appear, this is the issue.

Cause

The search index is failing to update. This may be due to an OutOfMemoryError. 

Workaround

Rebuild JIRA's search index. See Search Indexing.

Resolution

1. Perform the reindex described in the workaround. This may be sufficient to resolve the issue.

2. If the issue persists, investigate OutOfMemory errors. See JIRA Crashes Due to 'OutOfMemoryError Java heap space'.
