Problem
Few users are not able to assign issues to sprint in the Edit Issue screen, as the Jira Software Sprint field drop down is disabled:
Additionally, when hovering over the Sprint field in the View Issue screen, there is no pencil icon allowing to edit this field:
Environment
Jira Software Server/Data Center on any version from 8.0.0.
Cause
The impacted users are not given either the Edit Issues permission or the Schedule Issues permission from the Project Permissions page, which can be verified by using the Permission Helper:
Resolution
Grant the impacted users both the Edit Issues and the Schedule Issues permission from the Project Permissions page:
1. Log in as a Jira Administrator.
2. From the top navigation bar, click on Projects -> choose the affected project.
3. Click on the Administration tab -> Select Permissions of the left pane.
4. At the Default Permission Scheme page, click on Actions -> Edit Permission
5. Locate the 2 permissions Edit Issues and Schedule Issues and make sure the user in included in the appropriate group already associated to these permissions by checking the groups page.
6. If the user is not, click on Add and associate the user directly to those permissions.
