Planning a project requires more than just tracking when tasks are due. Advanced Roadmaps includes powerful tools to help you balance work across your teams, schedule issues in your plan, and share your vision with outside stakeholders. In this section, we’ll cover the tools that are at your disposal in Advanced Roadmaps.

At the top of every plan in Advanced Roadmaps, you’ll see this header:

1. Manage information in your plan

Underneath your plan name, you’ll find four tabs: Roadmap, Teams, Releases, and Dependencies.

  • The Roadmap is where you can view the Issues that make up your plan and how they’re scheduled, and your team’s Capacity. To learn how to customize this view, head over to the View your plan section.

  • The Teams tab is where you’ll find more information about the teams and team members working across the issues in your plan. See the Teams page to learn how to create and manage teams in Advanced Roadmaps.

  • The Releases tab lets you configure and manage the releases associated with your plan. See the Releases page to learn how to create and manage teams in Advanced Roadmaps.

  • The Dependencies tab will bring up a visual map of issues that are linked and must be completed in a specific order. To learn more about viewing and managing dependencies in your plan, visit the Dependencies page.

2. Plan settings

The  will lead you to the settings menu where you can configure plan settings, add issue sources to your plan, and delete a plan.

3. Schedule issues and share your plan

In the upper-right corner of the screen you’ll find five essential buttons: x warnings, Auto-schedule, Share, Export, and Review changes.

As you schedule issues, Advanced Roadmaps will alert you to any misaligned dates in your plan or issues that require your attention via the x warnings button. The most common warning is for misaligned dates, though there are several other causes as well. The warnings page goes into greater detail about what causes warnings and how to resolve them.

Advanced Roadmaps also comes with an Auto-schedule function that automatically creates a plan based on issue details that it imports from your selected issue sources. It can automatically create plans based on sprint assignments, scheduled releases, dependencies, dates, and more. To learn more about the auto-schedule function, visit the Auto-schedule page.

When you’re ready to share your plan, use the Share button to add it to a Confluence page using a macro, send a read-only view of your plan, and more. If you’d like to export your data to a .csv file, select the Export button. See Share and export plan data for more information.

Once you’ve created your perfect plan, select the Review changes button to save your changes to Jira Software issues. Advanced Roadmaps is a sandbox environment that won’t save your changes until you tell it to do so. You can also select changes to discard. See Save changes to Jira Software for more information.

Advanced Roadmaps is now part of Jira Software Data Center. To get access to the features described on this page, upgrade to Jira Software Data Center 8.15 or later. Can't upgrade yet? Depending on your current Data Center version, you can access these features by installing the latest version of the app (at no cost). See our FAQ for all the details
