"Error communicating with server" in the connect to cloud screen

Overview
This generic error message dialog in the migration assistant interface follows the below signature in the application log file atlassian-jira.log.

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Malformed email address. Does not contain only one mandatory symbol @
The error indicates that the user attempting to migrate has an incorrect email address registered on the Jira On-Premise instance.
Solution
Update the email address of the user initiating the migration, and retry the steps.
