Unable to perform text search using "~" or "!~" when the text custom field is named as "External issue Id"

Diagnosis

• Performing the search using the custom text field named "External issue Id" does not result in any issues and shows the message:

Invalid JQL: The operator '~' is not supported by the 'External issue ID[Short text]' field.

Cause

The field named "External Issue Id" already exists in the Jira Cloud instance and is used during CSV import operations. There might be multiple fields already with this name if there were multiple imports performed in the past.

Solution

Rename the field to any other name apart from "Externa Issue Id" to resolve the issue (Example: External IssueId)
