Incorrect "Unestimated Issues" Count in Advanced Roadmaps
Platform Notice: Cloud - This article applies to Atlassian products on the cloud platform.
Summary
The count of unestimated issues in the Advanced Roadmaps timeline view may differ from the count shown when viewing the epic itself. For example, the timeline may show 7 unestimated issues, but only 4 appear directly under the epic.
Environment
Jira Cloud
Diagnosis
- Review the timeline view in Advanced Roadmaps to identify the unestimated issue count under an epic.
- Open the epic and check the breakdown of unestimated issues.
- If the timeline count is higher than expected, verify whether subtasks are included in the hierarchy configuration.
Cause
- Subtasks in the Count: Advanced Roadmaps includes subtasks in the unestimated issue count.
- Hierarchy Configuration: By default, the hierarchy is set to Epic → Subtask, which ensures all issues are visible. If the hierarchy has been edited (e.g., set to Epic → Story), subtasks are excluded, causing the discrepancy.
Solution
Verify the Hierarchy Configuration:
- Go to the Filters section of your Advanced Roadmaps plan.
- Ensure the hierarchy is set to display from Epic (or the highest-level issue type) to Subtask.
Review and Update the Timeline View:
- After confirming or adjusting the hierarchy, revisit the timeline.
- The full breakdown of unestimated issues, including subtasks, should now be visible.
