Stash fail to connect to MySQL database. The following appears on the UI:

The target database is not configured for UTF-8 support. For information
 about creating a database for use with Stash, please refer to the Stash
 documentation.If you continue having issues, get in touch with our support team and we'll help get you up and running.

When creating the Stash external database, incorrect character set and collation were used. 


To fix the error message, please make sure you configured the correct character set (UTF-8) required by Stash at the database creation time. There are instructions on how you should perform that within each of the documents below:

# Make sure your MySQL database is configured as the document above -> utf8 character set encoding and utf8_bin collation
show variables like "character_set_database";
show variables like "collation_database";
