Problems Connecting to the Atlassian Marketplace
Symptoms:
An error message in a UPM administration page says that the Atlassian Marketplace server is not reachable, or you encounter other connection-related problems while using the Universal Plugin Manager (UPM) app (also known as add-on or plugin) administration pages.
What's going on:
The UPM must be able connect to the Atlassian Marketplace website to perform a number of functions, such as checking for app updates and installing new apps.
If you encounter network-related problems while using UPM, try the following troubleshooting steps:
Check whether a firewall is blocking UPM access to the Atlassian servers, for example, by attempting to use the following example command the marketplace.atlassian.com server from the computer that hosts the Atlassian application.
curl -v -X GET https://marketplace.atlassian.com/healthcheck
For more information, see Configuring Marketplace connectivity.
- Universal Plugin Manager needs access to:
- Since IP addresses for a given domain can change over time, Atlassian recommends that you configure your firewall policy by hostname rather than by numeric IP address.
- Universal Plugin Manager needs access to:
- By default, UPM uses the proxy settings of the host application to connect to the Marketplace. If UPM cannot connect to the Marketplace server, you should verify the proxy configuration for the host application. Refer to the documentation for the Atlassian application for instructions for configuring proxy settings, keeping in mind that you'll need to include the HTTPS configuration:
- If network traffic normally goes through a proxy, you should configure the proxy so that calls from your application (that is, Confluence or JIRA) to itself are not routed through the proxy.
- Ensure that you have correctly set the base URL for the application.
- Make sure that the browser being used to access the Atlassian application is not in offline mode. The UPM does not function in a browser in offline mode.
- As a last measure, restart your application to flush any cached DNS information about the Marketplace services.
If needed, you can disable Marketplace connectivity for UPM as follows:
- Disable the connection to the Atlassian Marketplace. (This feature is available in UPM 1.5 and later.)
- Set the system property
upm.pac.disable
totrue
. When this property is set to true, UPM does not try to access the Atlassian Marketplace. Example:-Dupm.pac.disable=true
- Refer to the application documentation to see how to set a system property: Bamboo, Confluence, FishEye/Crucible, JIRA.
- Set the system property
The following features will work without an Internet connection:
- Managing existing apps.
- Uploading app distribution files from a local server.
- Audit logging.
