Summary
This document is a guide for linking Jira Cloud and Bamboo on-premises instances. Linking both applications will allow you to take advantage of features such as having build information displayed directly in your Jira Cloud instance (for more details, View Bamboo activity in Jira applications).
Please note that Jira Cloud can't manage the users for locally-installed applications – the application's built-in user management or a local Crowd or LDAP Instance should be used instead.
Environment
- Jira Cloud
- Bamboo Server or Data Center
Solution
Using Application Links
Application Links are the traditional way to connect Atlassian Products. Application Links have requirements that must be followed before having two applications successfully link.
Requirements
- You must have Administrator permissions on both Jira cloud and Bamboo instances
- Bamboo must be accessible via either TCP port 80, 8085, 8443, or 443 via a public IP address on the Internet
- The URL for the application must fulfil the RFC 1738 URL standards, that is, a valid, public FQDN.
- If SSL is used, you need to have a valid, public certificate; a self-signed certificate will not work
- Check Bamboo's Base URL and validate it is set correctly. Fix it in case it doesn't match the public FQDN that Jira will use
- Your Bamboo server must be reachable by the Jira Software Cloud IP range. Please refer to Database and IP information for details on the IP range used by Jira Software Cloud
Comply with the requirements above so that Atlassian Cloud IP addresses can reach the Bamboo server running on your internal network; then follow the pages below for instructions on how to configure your Application Link between Jira Cloud and Bamboo:
- Create application links between cloud and self-managed products
- Use AppLinks to link to Atlassian products
Using Application Tunnels
Alternatively, you can use Application tunnels. Application Tunnels provide a secure pathway between your Atlassian Cloud organization and Atlassian Data Center or Server instances in your on-premises network. You can use Application Tunnels to avoid opening incoming traffic from Atlassian Cloud to your network by requiring the on-premises Atlassian Applications to initiate the connection to the Atlassian cloud instance.
