We're constantly improving our products in small, measured steps, so only a small pool of users will see these changes initially. If you're part of the measured rollout, you should have already received a email notification from us.We're introducing new functionality to allow users who are not on your site to request access for themselves. All access requests must be made by a user with a verified email address and Atlassian account, and you can always deny them.

The current state of access requests

When a user is on your site, they may not have access to all your site's products. If they come across a page for a product they can't access (i.e. another user sends them the URL), they'll see a Request access button.  Users on your site can also request access for both existing site users and users who aren't on your site.

All requests appear on the Access requests page, where you can approve or deny access to users.

Changes to access requests

We're making changes to allow users who are not on your site to make an access request for themselves. This means if they're linked to a product they can't access, they don't have to be a current user to see the Request access button. These users can never make access requests for other users.

Users who aren't on your site still need a verified email address and an Atlassian account to request access for themselves. If you're still not sure about these users, you can always deny their request. When you deny a user this way, they can't request access again.

All requests will still appear on the Access requests page, where you can review requests and approve, or deny access to users.

We'll be continuously improving this functionality as we collect your feedback.

How to approve or deny requests

Users can't use this feature to access your site or products unless you choose to approve them. We provide as much information as possible about the requesting user to help you make a decision.

To approve or deny requests:

  1. Go to your site's Administration at admin.atlassian.com:

    • If you're an admin for one site, you'll land on the Users page of your site.
    • If you're an admin for multiple sites or an organization admin, click a site's name and URL to open the Administration for that site.

  2. Click Access requests in the sidebar.

  3. To see more details about the user who will get access, click Review request.
  4. To approve a user's request, click Approve now.
To deny a user's request, click the menu to the right and select Deny access. If a user has requested themselves, selecting Deny access also prevents the user from requesting access in the future.

After you grant a user access to a product, we’ll add them to the default product group and start billing you for the new user.

After you deny a user access to a product, you can send them a short message explaining why.

Giving us feedback or opting out

We'd love to know about your experiences with this feature and what you think about it. If you're part of the measured rollout and would like to provide feedback, we've given you the ability to do so on the Access requests page. To opt-out of the measured rollout, reply to notification email you received or contact us at access-settings@atlassian.com
