Atlassian Cloud changes Dec 14 to Dec 21, 2020
These changes have recently been rolled out to Atlassian Cloud sites.
Changes labeled ROLLING OUT are being gradually rolled out and may not be on your site just yet.
Atlassian Cloud
Your cloud-hosted products are supported by the Atlassian Cloud platform. This section usually includes changes related to multiple Atlassian Cloud products, site administration, and user management.
Control when changes roll out with release tracks
Control when you and your users get Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Confluence changes with the release tracks feature.
On the continuous release track, products get changes as soon as they become available. On the bundled release track, products get changes as a group every two weeks. This gives you time to plan for multiple product changes and features that will impact your users. Learn more about release tracks.
Jira platform
Changes in this section usually apply to all Jira products. We'll tell you in the change description if something is only for a specific Jira product.
Issue collector matches the submitter's user session differently in Chrome
ROLLING OUTWe’ve adapted our issue collectors to the Chrome browser’s new cookie security features and made some changes to how they work. The issue collector no longer matches a submitter’s user session to make them the reporter, but you can still match them by email address.
To improve issue security, project and issue keys are no longer displayed in the success message after submitting feedback on an issue collector (unless the project is open to anyone on the web).

ROLLING OUTAs an admin, you’ll soon receive an option to move your users to the new issue view all at once before March 31, 2021. To take advantage of that option, you need to delay new issue view reminders in our new issue view transition page. That way your users don’t receive pop-up reminders in Jira with the wrong date. ROLLING OUTDo you want to use the Deployments feature for all of your Jira projects? Well, simply enable the feature from Project settings.
Then, the Deployments page will guide you through connecting the pipelines from your CI/CD provider for sending deployment data to Jira and visualize it on your existing project timeline.
New issue view: Find work from your entire Jira site in the editor
ROLLING OUTIn the new issue view’s editor, you can now link work from your entire Jira site and not just recent items. To try it out, go to an issue, open the editor (by, for example, clicking into a description field or starting a comment), and click the link button in the toolbar. From there, you can search your entire Jira site for work.

View issue search results from your project in a tabular format
ROLLING OUTNavigate easily through your issue results in a project by switching from detail view to list view. To view your issues in rows and their details in columns (similar to a spreadsheet), go to Issues > Switch to list view.
Note: If you haven’t yet enabled the issue navigator in your next-gen project, go to Project settings > Features and toggle on the Issue navigator.
Jira Software
From March 31, 2021, we’ll begin moving all users to the new issue view in Jira Cloud products (Jira Software, Jira Service Desk, and Jira Core). Shortly after that, we’ll remove access to the old issue view. We’ve made great improvements to the new issue view in the past year and will continue to make it better before we remove the old one. For key dates, what’s next, and more details, check out our official announcement.
Classic projects: Create a new board, get a roadmap
ROLLING OUT NEW THIS WEEKWe’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again—the roadmap takes your planning game up a notch. And from now on, when you create a new board in a classic project, you don’t even have to enable it. It’s there. Just like that.
To recap, the roadmap presents your team’s work in one spot, so everyone (important stakeholders included) has sight of the big picture. This makes it easier to prioritize and share efforts, watch for scope creep, and gain insight into large pieces of work, ahead of time. Nice.
Learn more about the roadmap for classic projects.
GitHub app on the Atlassian Marketplace
ROLLING OUTWe've partnered with GitHub to build a new and improved integration, which you can install at the Atlassian Marketplace. This replaces the DVCS connector in Jira's system settings. Current GitHub integrations set up under the old method will continue to work, but new integrations must be set up using the app on the Atlassian Marketplace. We're rolling out this update gradually, so it may not be on your Jira Cloud site yet.
This won't affect GitHub Enterprise integrations, which must still be set up via the DVCS connector.
Enhanced release notes functionality
ROLLING OUTAccess the enhanced release notes functionality by navigating to Releases > Version > Release notes. The revised Release notes page in your Jira Software project provides you with the following options:
- Create release notes in the markdown format
- Regenerate release notes based on layout and issue types
- Format and update release notes in the editor
- Copy the release notes to the clipboard

Request approval from approvers associated with a service
ROLLING OUTWhen configuring approvals for a workflow in the new IT service management template, admins can now allow approvers associated with a service to flag, review, and approve changes to reduce the risk of impacting service quality. Learn how to request approval from approvers associated with a service.
Link multiple Confluence spaces to your knowledge base
ROLLING OUTIt’s here! You can now link more than one Confluence space to your knowledge base. Organize your articles more efficiently and help your customers faster than ever with the redesigned knowledge base settings page. Admins can now create a space from their service projects, link multiple existing spaces at once, set individual space permissions, and manage article suggestions better. And agents can now filter articles by linked spaces.
Get started quicker with the 'Quickstart' panel
ROLLING OUTKnowing what to do first when you create a new kind of project can be tricky. That’s why we’ve introduced the Quickstart panel - a handy side panel filled with easy-to-follow steps and links to documentation to get you up and running as quickly as possible.
If you’d rather look at it later, then simply select Close Quickstart at the bottom of panel - you can always open it back up through your Settings (cog) in the top right.

Confluence
Find the right page by seeing more info at a glance
ROLLING OUT NEW THIS WEEKTrying to find a specific page is hard when you remember some things about it but you don’t remember what it’s called. Searching for it might seem challenging. What if you could see the pages in your space differently?
Select Pages in your space sidebar to get a quick, high-level view of the freshest pages in the space with enough info about the pages to help you find the right one — like who created it, when it was updated last, and a snippet of the first few lines on the page. If you don’t see what you need initially, you can do some filtering and sorting to really hone in on the right pages.
Match the case when using find and replace
ROLLING OUT NEW THIS WEEKWhen using find and replace, Confluence now gives you the option to match the text case – giving you even more control.
Jira issue URLs are converted to smart links
ROLLING OUTWhen you paste a Jira issue link into a Confluence page, the URL is converted to a smart link that displays the page icon and the page title. This works if the Jira and Confluence sites are linked or if they are both cloud versions.
Add links to images
ROLLING OUTAfter adding an image to your page in the new editor, you can link it to other pages in Confluence or to external URLs.
Confluence mobile: Undo or redo what you've typed on iOS
ROLLING OUTMade a mistake? (Don’t worry, we all do.) Now you’ll find convenient undo/redo buttons in the editor.
Archive pages in bulk
ROLLING OUTFor space admins on the premium plan, keeping your spaces tidy and up to date just got a lot easier with bulk archiving. You can archive up to 500 pages in a single action. Just look for Bulk Archive in your space’s side navigation to access the bulk archiving dashboard. Once in the dashboard, simply check the boxes next to the pages you want to archive and click the Archive button at the top.
A simpler way to create content
ROLLING OUTCreate a new page with just one click. Browse or search for templates right in the editor or get straight to work on a blank page.
Improve the appearance of hyperlinks with Smart links and Smart cards
ROLLING OUTYou can use Smart links and Smart cards to make your links stand out while providing meaningful details that keep readers on your page. Learn more
Hiding the Like button on archived pages
ROLLING OUTWhen you archive a page, you’re signaling to your team that this page is outdated or otherwise no longer relevant to current work. Since no one should be paying attention to or engaging with these pages, we’ve hidden the Like button so no new likes can be added.
You’ll still be able to see all likes the page accrued up until it was archived.
New loading experience for page buttons
ROLLING OUTWe've improved the loading experience of page buttons like the "Edit" pencil, the star, and Share so they don't move around while the page is loading.
Archive all nested pages in one action
ROLLING OUTPage archiving enters its next phase with nested archiving. For any page you archive, if it has any nested pages, you’ll have the option to include all of them with the original page selected. Pages archived together will maintain their visual hierarchy to preserve the context in which they were organized in the page tree.
You’ll have the same option to include all nested pages when restoring any page in the archive back to the page tree.
You can use nested archiving on the Premium plan.
Improvements to the people menu
ROLLING OUTWe’re gradually rolling out some tweaks to the People menu. The Invite your teammates button is now named Add people. You’ll find the button a little further up the menu.
When you add new users to Confluence from the Add People button, your site settings determine whether they’re invited or sent an access request.
Recommending pages to archive
ROLLING OUTWe’ve added a notification email that’ll recommend archiving pages excluded by a bulk archiving action.
With the ability to archive a page and all of its nested pages (a whole branch of the page tree), sometimes not all pages in the branch can be included. This happens when the archiver either doesn’t have permission to view a nested page or doesn’t have permission to archive a nested page, which results in these pages being left behind in the page tree.
If you created any of these “left behind” pages, we’ll let you know in the email and give you a quick way to archive them!
Edit existing comments on mobile
ROLLING OUTNow you can edit existing comments with ease, right in the palm of your hand.
Edit comments in Confluence for iPhone
ROLLING OUTYou can now edit comments in Confluence, right from your iPhone or iPad.
Template previews in the editor
ROLLING OUTYou can preview templates in the editor before you select them. Just hover over the name of the template you’d like to see.
Page actions have been reorganized
ROLLING OUTWhen you are viewing a page, there are a lot of things that you can see and do. The more important and useful actions are represented as icons at the top of the page. Actions that you use less frequently or those that are used by fewer people are tucked away in the More actions ( ••• ) menu. The actions available there have been reorganized into more logical sections — actions, key metadata, and advanced details.
The following actions were removed as their functionality was achieved elsewhere:
- Restrictions — use the lock icon to the left of the Share button.
- Link to this Page — continue to use the shortcut key
k
to launch the Link to this Page modal, copy the page link from the Share dialog box, or copy the URL from the browser. - View in hierarchy — use the space sidebar to navigate to Space Settings > Content Tools > Reorder pages where you can view all pages in the space and reorder them.
If your site contains third-party actions, those will be at the bottom.
Aggregate decisions in one place
ROLLING OUTBeing able to add Decision elements to pages created using the new editor was good, but you didn’t have an easy way to gather up those decisions in one place until now. Wherever you need to see specific decisions that make sense to the content of your page, insert the Decision report macro from the toolbar or the slash command menu. You can use filters to focus on the pages whose decisions make sense to you.
Since decisions are often made during meetings, the macro was also added to the Meeting notes page that is auto-generated in each space; this auto-generated page serves as the index that lists any pages created from a meeting notes template anywhere in the space, which is particularly handy if meeting notes need to be in different parts of your page tree.
Search for any page or blog when adding a link using the new editor
ROLLING OUTWhen adding a link using the new editor, you can search for any page or blog in your site in addition to pasting a URL or picking a recently viewed Confluence page or blog.
Bulk archive up to 500 pages at a time
ROLLING OUTTo ensure Confluence performs at the highest level, we’ve limited the amount of pages you can bulk archive or bulk restore to 500 pages at a time. We hope to increase the limit soon!
Enhanced invite visibility
ROLLING OUTAdd your teammates from the People menu in the top navigation of Confluence and Jira Software.
Commenting on the mobile app has a new look (Android)
ROLLING OUTCommenting on Confluence Mobile has a fresh look. We've updated the look and feel for Like, Reply, and the overflow menu.
Confluence Premium: Bulk archive pages
ROLLING OUTFor space admins on the premium plan, keeping your spaces tidy and up to date just got a lot easier with bulk archiving. You can archive up to 500 pages in a single action. Just look for Bulk Archive in your space’s sidebar to access the bulk archiving dashboard. Once in the dashboard, simply check the boxes next to the pages you want to archive and select the Archive button at the top.
Adding people to your site just got easier
ROLLING OUTAdd people to your site quickly and easily by syncing your Google Workspace. Just open the People menu in your top navigation, select Add people to Confluence, and then click Sync users from Google in the dialog window that appears.

Updates and additions to the right sidebar in pull requests
NEW THIS WEEKIn pull requests, you can now use the right sidebar to:
- Select whether you want to view pull request details (for example, merge checks, the files associated with the pull request, or the activity on the pull request) by using the tabs along the top of the sidebar.
- Change the way you view the files by selecting either ‘Tree’ or ‘List’ view in the Pull request preferences.
- See files in a more readable and consistent format.
