Common JIRA Software setups
JIRA Software is a powerful platform that combines issue collection and agile project management capabilities into a single application.
No matter the agile methodology your team uses, JIRA Software provides you the tools to plan and organize tasks, configure and customize workflows, and generate reports for your agile team more efficiently.
Scrum, Kanban, or KanPlan?
Scrum
If your team works in sprints, and releases iterative versions of your product on a regular schedule, then Scrum is for you.
Here's a sample Scrum board, with its Backlog and Active sprints.
Kanban
If your team has a continuous flow of work (e.g. service-oriented teams), where your team pulls in issues to work on, and repeats the cycle when completing these issues, then Kanban's a better fit.
Here's a sample Kanban board.
KanPlan
KanPlan gives you the best of both worlds, in that your team uses Kanban, but you're managing your work on a bigger Kanban Backlog that comes with the Scrum board in JIRA Software.
Note that the Kanban Backlog is still a JIRA Software Labs feature, so it may be incomplete, or may change before being incorporated into the application. See here for more info.
