Due to a bug in Jira, all versions starting from 7.4.0 until 9.4.21, 9.12.8, 9.15.1 cannot be compiled. JRASERVER-66224 - Jira 7.4.0 and higher cannot be built from source due to internal NPM registry tracked and resolved this.  While you can still download and view the source code for these older versions, some required packages cannot be downloaded to complete the compile process.

Purpose

Jira and Confluence source codes are available for our customers. We allow them to modify the source to develop bug fixes, customizations, or additional features to suit their needs.

While you can customize the Jira code, Atlassian support offering does not cover such customizations, i.e., the support team is not expected to support your customization.

Normally, customers may acquire the Jira source by opening a support ticket to request the desired version of source code. (Previously, this was available via MyAtlassian).  However, only the Commercial and Academic license holders are entitled to the Jira source files. You may check our Who has access to product source code? to know more about the Jira source.
