Summary

When trying to install a forge app in a Bitbucket Cloud workspace, an error related to permissions occurs. 

Error: Insufficient permissions to install app (requestId: xxxxxx)

To install the app on this site, generate an installation link in the developer console and share it with the site admin: https://developer.atlassian.com/console/myapps/xxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx/distribution

Solution

Ensure you are not installing the Forge app in your personal workspace. You can learn more about personal vs. shared workspaces here: Difference between shared and personal workspaces.

Forge apps are not supported on personal workspaces. If you install an app to a personal workspace, you will get an insufficient permissions error. See set up a shared team workspace.

 Please note that we no longer create personal workspaces for the new users signed up for Bitbucket Cloud after February 2023.
