Discovery Tool updates in Assets Discovery 7.1.0 for Cloud and Data Center

Stay safe with Safe Patterns and a built-in Pattern Editor

Before upgrading to version 7.1.0 and using Pattern Editor, make sure to manually run the Discovery.exe -backup command. This will save a copy of your settings and patterns.

To enhance security and prevent Remote Code Execution (RCE), we're introducing the Safe Patterns feature. Starting with Discovery 7.1.0, you can't use or modify *.pat files directly. Instead, the default patterns are stored in Discovery assemblies and serve as the source of truth. Now, you can create custom patterns in the Pattern Editor, and they'll be saved in an encrypted *.bpat file. If you're using custom patterns with the Discovery Agent, a secure *.bpat file is sent to the agent. If not, the default patterns from the assembly are used. More about creating and editing patterns

Specify Custom User accounts with limited permissions

You can now specify a Custom User account when installing Assets Discovery services, such as Discovery, Collector, or Agent. These custom user accounts allow services to run with only the necessary privileges, instead of using the default System account, which has extensive permissions. This is especially useful for following strict security policies and restricting the service's access.
