Bitbucket Data Center 9.2 release notes
24 September 2024
The Bitbucket Data Center 9.2 release is now available for upgrade.
Highlights include:
Multiline comments
For: END USERS
You can now add comments and tasks to specific line ranges in the diff view. To add your feedback, simply drag the comment marker or use the "+” icon across lines of code in your pull request or in an individual commit.
This feature enables reviewers to deliver more precise feedback and provide better context in their comments within the code. As a result, team communication and the review process are both enhanced and streamlined. Check out Commenting on a pull request for more information.
Enhanced security for database stored secrets
For: ADMINS
In an ongoing effort to enhance Bitbucket's security, we have expanded our encryption capabilities to safeguard more sensitive information. This enhancement encompasses securing the search server password, the mail server password, and the credentials for OAuth 1.0 application links, all of which were previously stored in plaintext format within the database. Starting from Bitbucket 9.2, these confidential details will be encrypted using AES encryption.
When upgrading to Bitbucket 9.2, it's important to note that existing secrets will undergo automatic encryption. Bitbucket will handle the generation and management of encryption keys, which will be stored in the shared home directory. Ensure that these keys are integrated into your backup strategy to mitigate any potential data access issues that may arise.

Securing the bitbucket.properties file
For: ADMINS
In addition to encrypting database-stored secrets, Bitbucket 9.2 introduces the ability to automatically secure sensitive properties in the bitbucket.properties
file. This enhancement allows for more comprehensive protection of configuration data.

, check out our detailed guide.
