3.1 As is or improve

Migrating to a new system gives you the opportunity to re-evaluate the way your previous issue-tracker was structured and how businesses processes were mapped into the system. In business strategy, one of the tools used in this context is the SWOT analysis which outlines the Strength, Weaknesses, Threats and Opportunities of an organization. You can use that tool to discuss the following areas with the business stakeholders you are interviewing during the requirement gathering phase:

  • Business processes - simplification or adjustment to changes in the organization and work methods
  • Possibilities with JIRA to integrate with a variety of new systems
  • New backup, high availability, and disaster recovery procedures
  • How to leverage JIRA’s collaboration and portal capabilities

Essentially, the outcome of this phase will influence the pilot and later production parameters of the JIRA instance.
