This article complements the document Supported platforms. The article ensures compatibility between Jira versions and database versions. Use the article if you're planning to deploy a Jira instance to an existing database or to upgrade to a newer Jira version.

To use the matrix, select your database and Jira version, and check their compatibility:

Definitions:

Supported – you can use your Jira version with this database.

Limited – you can evaluate your Jira version on this database, but you can't run a production site on it. 

Deprecated – you can use your Jira version with this database, but we're planning to end support in an upcoming release.

Not compatible – you can't use your Jira version with this database.

Embedded Database

Jira ships with a built-in database (H2) which is for evaluation only.

Clustered Database

In Jira 9.10, we're adding support for PGpool-II, an open-source database solution based on PostgreSQL, providing a proxy between Jira and a PostgreSQL database cluster.
