JIRA Service Desk version 2.0 introduces a new pricing model, which requires a new license key (version 2 license). Whether or not you adopt the new pricing model affects your upgrade path. Use this page if you plan to upgrade to the version 2.0 product and stay with your existing pricing model, i.e. the version 1 license.

If you are interested in moving to the new pricing, please check out the New pricing model for JIRA Service Desk 2.0 FAQ.

What's new for me

JIRA Service Desk 2.0 Release Notes summarizes the new functionalities and changes introduced in version 2.0. Because you are staying with the version 1 license, you will not get the new People tab; all the other 2.0 features and changes will be available in your system after the upgrade.

Before you begin

  • You must have the JIRA System Administrators global permission.
  • Check the Supported platforms to ensure your version of JIRA supports JIRA Service Desk version 2.0.

Upgrading JIRA Service Desk

  1. Install version 2.0. For instructions, see Installing JIRA Service Desk.
Version 2.0 introduces the service-desk-agents group and the JIRA Service Desk agent access global permission. JIRA Service Desk uses these two new settings to manage license allocation under the version 2 license. It is recommended that you do not modify these two settings. This will ensure easier migration if you want to change to the new pricing model later.
  2. Optional: Migrate your permission scheme. For detailed information, see Setting up users with the version 1.x pricing.

If you are upgrading from version 1.2 to 2.0,  the People tab works the same as in version 1.2.

If you are upgrading from version 1.1 to 1.2, the People tab is an addition to the service desk interface.
