User stories, tasks and bugs are all represented in JIRA Software as issues - they're the building blocks of all projects. During a typical day, these are some of the tasks you might perform.

Create an issue

  1. Click Create at the top of the screen to open the Create Issue dialog box.
  2. Select the Project and Issue Type in the Create Issue dialog box.
  3. Type a Summary for the issue and complete any appropriate fields.

  4. Click Create.

Got some really big issues?

You may want to break down your bigger issues into a series of sub-tasks. See Creating issues and sub-tasks for more information.

Estimate issues

Estimating issues helps you predict how long it would take you to deliver certain portions of the backlog.

Before the sprint
  1. Click Plan to go to Plan mode.
  2. Click the issue key to display the issue details at the right of the screen, then type in the Estimate field.
During the sprint
  1. Click Work to go to Work mode.
  2. Click the Remaining field and enter the Remaining Estimate for each issue.

Transition issues

When you're done working on an issue, it's time to transition the issue by moving that issue from one status to another.

  1. Click Boards (in header) > select your desired board.
  2. In the Active sprints (Scrum board) or Kanban board (Kanban board), transition an issue(s) by dragging and dropping the issue(s) from one column to another.
