Add, edit and remove users

When it's time to add or remove users in your Atlassian Cloud site, you can add them within Cloud itself, or you can set up Google Apps integration for your user and group management.

On this page, we'll deal with adding, removing and managing users in Atlassian Cloud.

Add users

On this page:

  1. Head to
     >  User management
  2. Choose the Create user button at the top-right
  3. Enter the relevant details and select the applications they can access
  4. Choose Create user
If you need to create more users, check the Create another checkbox before you click Create user.

If you have linked Bitbucket accounts with JIRA applications, you can add new users to a Bitbucket group from the Bitbucket account management page.

Edit users

You can change someone's username, name, and/or email address in your Cloud apps (JIRA applications and Confluence only) by editing the user in the user management page. Currently, it's not possible to edit Bamboo users.

  1. Head to
     >  User management
  2. On the Users screen, select the user you want to edit to open their details
  3. Select Edit, modify the details and click Save

Deactivate or delete users

Deleting a user is a pretty simple process, but if they've contributed content or comments on your site, you may not be able to delete them. In this case, you can deactivate the user. Deactivating a user won't remove the content created by them, and you can choose to reactivate them later if you want to.

Deactivated users can no longer log in to Atlassian Cloud, and they don't add to your user count. You can filter to see all deactivated users on the main users screen, so you can quickly find the list of non-active users in your site.

If someone has done any of the following, you'll need to deactivate their user account rather than deleting it:

  • Reported or been assigned to any issues in JIRA applications
  • Commented on any issues in JIRA applications
  • Added or edited any content in Confluence (including pages and blog posts, and edits and comments on existing pages)
  • Created labels or comments about build results in Bamboo

To deactivate a user:

  1. Go to

     >  User management

  2. On the Users screen, select the user you want to deactivate to open the user details
  3. On the user details screens, select Deactivate

You can always reactivate a user later if you want to. To do so, click the Activate button on the user details screen.

To delete a user:

  1. Choose
     >  User management
  2. Select the user you want to delete
  3. Choose Delete
