Atlassian Cloud changes May 28 to Jun 4, 2018

These changes have been made or are being made to your Atlassian Cloud products and services.

Anything with a (star) is new this week.

Changes with a (plus) are steadily rolling out and may not be on your site just yet.

Atlassian Cloud

Your cloud-hosted products are supported by the Atlassian Cloud platform. This section usually includes changes related to multiple Atlassian Cloud products, site administration, and user management.

New platform for outgoing mail (plus) (star)

Jira and Confluence have started to use a new mail platform to deliver outgoing email. This will be rolled out progressively over the coming weeks. For administrators who whitelist IP ranges, you should update the list of IPs that Atlassian mail will be sent from as found on this page: Atlassian cloud IP ranges and domains.

Mail from Jira and Confluence will appear as being sent from the following addresses according to product & region. If you have automation rules that are triggered based on these emails, you may need to update your rules:

Organizations for verified domains and accounts (plus)

We've introduced 'organization' as a way to manage your verified domains and user accounts. You can subscribe to Identity Manager and apply security policies on all your managed accounts.

Identity Manager is free to try for a limited time. Learn more about Identity Manager's Early Access Program.

Get two-step verification codes via app or text (SMS) (plus)

Now, when you enable two-step verification on your Atlassian account, you can choose whether to get the 6-digit verification code via authentication app on your smartphone, or by text (SMS) message. Read about enabling two-step verification.

Atlassian admin hub (plus)

For those of you who've created an organization, we're moving the organization management functionality to Atlassian admin hub. For more information, see the Atlassian admin hub blog post.

Confluence

End of support for nested tables (plus)

As we work on creating a more stable editing experience, we will no longer be supporting nested tables - that is, a table within a list, block quotes, or another table. Existing nested tables will not be affected, you simply won't be able to create new nested tables.

Blogs are getting the first round of editing improvements (plus)

If you've ever thought 'I wish it was easier to read blogs on mobile.... or on other devices', then this change is for you. Blogs are getting fixed-width layouts to improve readability across all devices. We're making a bunch of other updates to improve editing reliability and clean up your editing experience, so some macros may be temporarily unavailable while they're under maintenance. You can read more about these changes on our docs site.

Space settings has moved (plus)

Space settings has a new home. It's still in the sidebar, but it's moving up in the world, and now lives under the space name. To find it, click the down arrow next your space name, then click the cog icon. Feel free to poke around and get to know its new neighborhood!

Meeting notes are getting a makeover (plus)

We're continuing to work on improving your editing experience, and next in line for an upgrade is meeting notes. In addition to being faster and more reliable, your new meeting notes are also responsive, optimized for readability, and have advanced tables. Some macros are still temporarily missing as we rebuild them, but you can check the list and find more details on all of these changes from our docs site.

Jira Service Desk

Automate requests according to time in a certain status (plus)

You can now automate the handling of requests based on the time they have been in a certain status.  In the automation settings, you will find a new WHEN action that allows you to specify the status and the amount of time of the requests you'd like to manage. Adding in a THEN action afterwards will allow you to take action on those requests like transitioning an issue to 'closed' or prompting for a comment.

New design for Automation rule building (plus)

You'll be able to automate your repetitive tasks easier than ever with our new rule building for Automation. Check it out by editing one of your existing rules, browsing some new pre-configured rules we've just added, or building your own custom rule.

New portal-only accounts are given a randomly generated username (plus)

Usernames for portal-only customers are now in the format qm:<alphanumeric-hash>. Learn more on the Jira Service Desk blog.

Help center updates - My requests and Search (plus)

  • My requests in the help center has moved to under the help seekers' avatar
  • You can search the whole help center from any page

iOS ❤️ Jira Service Desk (plus)

We're excited to bring you Jira Service Desk for iOS. You can now:

  • check your Jira Service Desk projects, queues, and issues on mobile
  • reply to customers or leave internal notes for your team

If you already have the JIRA Cloud Mobile app, then you're ready to go. Just update the app and find your projects waiting for you.

Don't have the JIRA app yet? Download it from the App Store. Then, sign in to your service desk site to keep your queues at your fingertips.

Android users, don't despair - we're coding at top speed to bring you Jira Service Desk next.

Jira import syncs customer account directory (plus)

We're changing what happens when you import Jira Service Desk customer accounts to a site that already has customer accounts. If customers have different data in the import and the destination site, then we use the destination version.

Previously, the imported data would replace the destination data, which meant that customers who were in the destination site but not in the import were deleted.

Automation rules now include a trigger for completed approvals (plus)

Completed approvals can now trigger your automation rules. Administrators can try this out by setting up a new custom rule.

Jira Software

We're rolling out a new type of project and a new global permission. By default, any licensed user can create their own independent project. These projects don't affect existing Jira projects or shared configurations. You can manage who's allowed to create independent projects with the new Create independent projects global permission. Read more about independent projects.

New issue view for Jira Software (plus)

Get a consistent view and edit experience with our new issue view for Jira Software. Click an issue to see its details, edit any field with a click, and add content with the quick-add buttons (under the issue summary). We're rolling this out gradually, so you may not see it on your site just yet. Take a look at the documentation for more info and watch the page to be updated when we release new features.

We're adding new features and refining the design all the time, so click Give feedback on the issue view to let us know what you think.

JSW <3 Confluence (plus)

For those of you using Confluence with Jira Software, we've added a new Pages option in the project menu where you can manage all of your project's Confluence docs, in one convenient spot (Scrum and Kanban boards only).

New issue view: full-page issue view (plus)

The new Jira issue view, which we already released for boards and the backlog, is now here for the full-page issue view. Quickly add attachments and subtasks, link issues, and click to edit any field you see. Check out this page for more info.

Jira Software messaging platform (plus)

New Jira Software customers now have the ability to chat with someone from our support team, directly from within the product. It's just an experiment for now, and we might roll it out to more people later.

Agility boards: Select multiple issues (plus)

You can now select multiple cards on your agility board by holding Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Mac), giving you the freedom to move, label, assign, and delete multiple issues at the same time.

New issue view: Open issues as a sidebar on boards (plus)

By popular demand: open the new issue view as a sidebar on your boards. If you're a team lead and need to view lots of issues in quick succession, or you need to see a selected issue and the board at the same time, this one's for you.

From a board, choose ••• > Open issues in sidebar. This sets your preference for all boards (you can switch back at any time). You can even adjust the width of the issue sidebar—drag it out far enough on your super-wide screen and get the full two-column issue view in a sidebar.

Agility boards: Reports (plus)

After receiving tonnes of feedback about it, we worked hard to make it happen - Reports are now a feature in agility boards! To enable reports:

  1. Navigate to your agility board.
  2. Hit Settings in the sidebar.
  3. Select Features.
  4. Enable Reports.

Agility boards: Invite team members from your board (plus)

You can now invite team members to your agility board from the people filter at the top of your board. For more information, check out our documentation.

Use rules to help automate repetitive actions on your agility board (plus)

Rules help you cut down on common, manual actions that your team performs when they move issues across your agility board. Try out the first rule coming to your board *Assign an issue to someone*. Add the rule to one of your columns and set up who should pick up the column's tasks. Once added, Jira automatically changes the assignee when any issue is dragged into the column.

To add rules to your agility board:

  1. Select the More menu (…) > Manage rules.
  2. Select Add rule.
  3. Choose the rule you want to add and set it up.

More rules are coming soon. Let us know what you think or get help with other agility board questions by visiting the Atlassian Community.

Agility boards: Import trello boards (plus)

You can now import your Trello boards and cards to Agility projects in Jira Software. To kick off the process:

  1. From the main menu in Jira select Settings > System.
  2. In the Import and Export section, click External system import.
  3. Select Trello.

For more information, check out our documentation.

Jira platform

Changes in this section usually apply to all Jira products. We'll tell you in the change description if something is only for a specific Jira product.

Back up and export Jira Cloud data improvements (star)

Jira Server and Data Center don't support independent projects, like those created with the new agility project template. So, we improved the backup manager to help Jira admins find and manage independent project data before backing up or exporting their cloud data for Jira Server products.

Go to SettingsSystem. Under the Import and export section, select Backup manager. You'll see a list of your Jira site's independent projects, links to their issues, and more.

The new Jira experience (plus)

We're rolling out a new Jira experience to our Jira Cloud customers. If you already have it on your site, read this guide to learn about it.

Manage users and roles on the People page (plus)

Users and Roles is now called People. It's where you manage access for the team of real people who work on your project.

Comment reactions (plus)

React to comments in Jira Core. Save those "+1" and "Thanks" comments for later and add a reaction instead (smile)

New issue view: Marketplace apps (plus)

Add extra information and functionality to issues with apps from the Atlassian Marketplace and the new issue view.

Invite new people to Jira projects by email (plus)

When adding people to projects, Jira admins can invite people to join their Atlassian site.

New media uploader (plus)

Use our new media uploader, with handy recent files list and image annotations.

Preview how to manage issue types in your independent agility projects (plus)

Check out the new issue type settings to get a sneak peek into how you'll customize your independent projects. Soon, you'll be able to set up your own issue types and customize their workflows and fields. Let us know what you think!

Apps and extra features for independent projects (plus)

Manage Atlassian Marketplace apps and extra features in your independent project's settings. These enhancements give Jira new functionality, integrate with other Atlassian products, and give your project some serious power.

New Jira experience: Updated project issue navigator (plus)

As part of the new Jira experience, we've updated the project issue navigator. There's a new, cleaner design, and it includes the new Jira issue view to help you quickly find and update important issue info.

Check it out by navigating to your project and selecting Issues in the sidebar.

Note: Create issue, list sorting, and navigation with keyboard shortcuts aren't available in the new navigator just yet, but we hope to add them very soon. The + in the sidebar is always there for when you need to create new issues.

Invite users directly from your independent agility projects (plus)

Trying to add someone new to your project? If they aren't already on your Jira site, you can invite them to join directly from the People page in your independent project settings. Currently, we're trying this out on agility projects.
