Controlled search reindex

For: ADMINS

You now have precise control over how you rebuild your site’s search index. You no longer have to spend time reindexing entire spaces or even the whole site when you only need to rebuild a portion of the content index.

You can now choose which elements you want to reindex for a space or site:

  • Content, such as pages, blog posts, and comments
  • Attachments
  • For site reindex, users

There's an issue with partial site reindexes in Confluence 9.5.1. Due to this issue, clustered environments currently support only full site reindex. This issue is fixed in Confluence 9.5.2.

Exact search is now enabled by default for OpenSearch

For: ADMINS

We've enhanced exact searches in Confluence to provide more specific results. This feature ensures that exact searches return more precise matches by ignoring wrapping punctuation and capitalization of the indexed text.

Exact search is enabled by default for OpenSearch. Rebuild the search index to enable your users to perform exact string searching in Confluence.

Exact search isn't enabled by default for Chinese, Custom Japanese, and CJK indexing languages due to technical limitations. If you have instances that are indexing with these languages, you can enable exact search via a dark feature.

If you’re using Lucene as a search engine, you can also enable exact search via a dark feature.

Refer to Configuring search for more details and exact steps for OpenSearch and Lucene.

OpenSearch for Confluence Data Center

As your Confluence site grows, you need a search that keeps up with your team’s pace. That’s why Confluence Data Center now offers OpenSearch as an opt-in alternative to the default Lucene search platform. We recommend switching to OpenSearch because it offers performance, scalability, and reliability improvements over Lucene.

We’re sharing a guide that explains the benefits of using OpenSearch as an alternative to the default Lucene search platform in Confluence Data Center. It includes:

  • Key differences between OpenSearch and Lucene

  • Benchmark results that show OpenSearch delivers faster search and better scalability

  • Guidance on when and why to switch, with further configuration steps
