Upgrade notes
Confluence Data Center 9.2 is a Long Term Support release
This means we'll provide bug fix releases until 9.2 reaches end of life, to address critical security, stability, data integrity, and performance issues.
Ready to upgrade? Check out the Confluence 9.2 Long Term Support Release Change Log for an overview of the changes to be aware of from Confluence 8.5 to Confluence 9.2 before making the move.
Performance benchmarking report
We’re running comprehensive performance testing to compare our Long Term Support releases to see how the recent changes have affected Confluence, and to make sure we’re not introducing any performance regressions. Long Term Support releases are always a number of versions apart so changes in performance are much more visible than between smaller, feature releases.
The report is currently in progress and we’ll be sharing it with you as soon as it’s ready.
Refine your license limit health check alerts from the UI
You can now configure your license limit health check directly from the UI. Change the percentage, or switch to a finite number of seats — you’re in control.
This change is part of the Atlassian Troubleshooting and Support app (ATST) 2.3.0, which is included with Confluence Data Center 9.2 and has been backported to 9.1.1.
If you’re using Confluence 8.7 or earlier, you can still install and upgrade to 1.61.0 through Atlassian Marketplace.
Coming soon - Gadgets as a marketplace app
Gadgets were removed in Confluence 9.0, and we are bringing it back as a marketplace app to re-enable integration between Confluence and Jira. When released, the app will initially be available as a beta before it's production-ready.
Embedding gadgets in Confluence will be available from Confluence 9.1 onwards as soon as the app is available to download.
We're still working on the app and we'll make it generally available as soon as it's ready.
Coming soon - Storage Format Source Editor app for Confluence
The Source Editor app is now called the Storage Format Source Editor app, and it will be compatible with Confluence Data Center. We’re also adding security updates and bug fixes to this app release.
Administrators are only recommended to use this app in troubleshooting and technical support scenarios. This app is not intended for regular, day-to-day use.
We're still working on the app and we'll make it generally available as soon as it's ready.

Upgrade procedure
Always test the upgrade in a test environment before upgrading in production.
To streamline the upgrade process for end users, check that infrastructure, functionality, and installed apps are working correctly before rolling the upgrade out to production.
To upgrade Confluence to the latest version:
- Go to Administration menu , then General Configuration > Plan your upgrade and select the version you want to upgrade to. This will run the pre-upgrade checks.
- Go to Administration menu , then General Configuration > Troubleshooting and support tools to check your license validity, application server, database setup and more.
- If your version of Confluence is more than one version behind, read the release notes and upgrade guides for all releases between your version and the latest version.
- Back up your installation directory, home directory and database.
- Download the latest version of Confluence.
- Follow the instructions in the Upgrade Guide.
Update configuration files after upgrading
The contents of configuration files such as server.xml, web.xml
, setenv.bat
/ setenv.sh,
and confluence-init.properties
change from time to time.
When upgrading, we recommend manually reapplying any additions to these files (such as proxy configuration, datasource, JVM parameters) rather than simply overwriting the file with the file from your previous installation; otherwise you will miss out on any improvements we have made.
