Getting started with Atlassian Data Center

This guide provides an overview of the steps you’ll need to take to get started with Atlassian Data Center products.

Upgrading from Server to Data Center? If you’re migrating an existing Server instance to Data Center, there are some additional things you’ll need to consider. See to Migrate from Server to Data Center

1. Get to know Data Center

Not sure if Data Center is right for you? Learn more about the benefits of choosing Data Center, as well as the exclusive features available with your license Data Center licensing and pricing

Ready to try Data Center? You can purchase a Data Center license, or create an evaluation license at my.atlassian.com.

2. Choose your deployment strategy

Before you begin, you’ll need to define your organization’s goals and decide on a deployment strategy, including the architecture and hosting method you’ll use. Data Center supports a number of options:

Architecture

  • Non-clustered (single node)
  • Clustered

Infrastructure

  • Your own hardware
  • Kubernetes cluster
  • Public cloud providers (AWS and Azure)

We’ve created a separate guide to help you compare and choose the right setup for your organisation. See Data Center architecture and infrastructure options

3. Set up your environment

Once you’ve defined your deployment strategy and plan, you can prepare your environment. If you choose to deploy Data Center in a cluster, you’ll need to factor in additional hardware, such as a load balancer.

We’ve created some guides to help you predict the size and shape of your Data Center instance so you can provision the right infrastructure.

4. Install and configure

Once your environment is ready, it’s time to install and configure the application. How you install depends on your infrastructure:

Kubernetes

Your own hardware

AWS (Amazon Web Services)

Azure

Before deploying to production, we recommend thoroughly testing the installation in a staging environment.

5. Maintain and scale

Already have Data Center deployed to your users? You'll need to monitor the health of your instance, and scale up when more people come onboard.

Ready to grow? Read up on scaling your Data Center installation. If you’re running a non-clustered (single node) Data Center installation, there may be additional steps involved to enable and configure clustering first.
