Atlassian presents Confluence 8.2.0-rc1 . This is a snapshot of our work in progress, primarily focused on providing app developers an opportunity to test their apps and make any required changes in advance of an official release.

Confluence 8.2.0-rc1 is available to download now .

Development releases are not production ready. Development releases are snapshots of the ongoing Confluence development process. While we try to keep these releases stable, they have not undergone the same degree of testing as a full release, and could contain features that are incomplete or may change or be removed before the next full release.

No upgrade path. Because development releases represent work in progress, we cannot provide a supported upgrade path between development releases, or from any development release to a final release. You may not be able to migrate any data you store in a Confluence development release to a future Confluence release.

Atlassian does not provide support for development releases.

A new way to find and add emojis

For DATA CENTER SERVER

In Confluence 8.0, we introduced the emoji menu to make it easier for you to browse and add emojis.

In Confluence 8.1, we added 3000+ new emojis, a skin tone selector and emoji search to the experience.

Now, we're rounding out the experience with an emoji autocomplete feature that'll predicts the emoji you're searching for as you type its name or shortcut. In the editor, type a colon ":" to trigger the menu, and when you've found the right one, select it to insert it on your page.

New user management REST APIs

For DATA CENTER SERVER

Enjoy greater flexibility in your work with new REST APIs to perform the following user management operations:

  • create a group
  • delete a group
  • add a user to a group
  • remove a user from a group
  • enable a user
  • disable a user
  • delete a user

This feature will be extremely useful for admins looking to automate user onboarding or off-boarding, and for security group synchronization.

See our REST API documentation for the new methods you can use.

Upgrade notes

Migration of attachment data to a new folder structure

For DATA CENTER SERVER

If you're not upgrading from Confluence 8.1, when you startup Confluence 8.2 your attachment data will automatically begin migrating to a new and more robust folder structure.

The version 4 or v4 directory will improve page move performance and stop images from going breaking or going "missing" during failed page moves. It's also expected to restore any attachments that previously broke as a result of failed page moves.

Confluence will operate normally while this migration task runs in the background. You must wait for this migration task to finish first if you intend on using S3 object storage.

Before you start up Confluence, review your backup solution as this change might lead to additional storage consumption. For example, if your backup tool reads the migrated attachments in v4 as new data, you could end up with duplicates.

To learn more about v4 or the migration task, see Hierarchical File System Attachment Storage.
