Confluence 9.3 beta release notes

Confluence Development Releases

Still need help?

The Atlassian Community is here for you.

Ask the community

Atlassian presents Confluence 9.3.1-rc1. This is a snapshot of our work in progress, primarily focused on providing app developers an opportunity to test their apps and make any required changes in advance of an official release.

Confluence 9.3.1-rc1 is available to download now.

Development releases are not production ready. Development releases are snapshots of the ongoing Confluence development process. While we try to keep these releases stable, they have not undergone the same degree of testing as a full release, and could contain features that are incomplete or may change or be removed before the next full release.

No upgrade path. Because development releases represent work in progress, we cannot provide a supported upgrade path between development releases, or from any development release to a final release. You may not be able to migrate any data you store in a Confluence development release to a future Confluence release.

Atlassian does not provide support for development releases.

Highlights of 9.3.1-rc1

Released 31 January 2025

Contains:

  • Minor bug fixes

Highlights of 9.3.0-beta1

Released 28 January 2025

Display days in the Roadmap Planner macro

For: END USERS

Zoom in on your roadmaps with the new ‘Days’ timeline option in the Roadmap Planner macro. Gone are the days when you could only view your roadmaps in weeks and months. Say hello to greater flexibility for all your planning needs.

Use this macro to craft a clear, visual timeline that’s perfect for organizing projects, software releases, and much more.

Templates in blog posts

For: END USERS

We’re excited to bring you the ability to use templates in blog posts. Similarly to how this works in Confluence Cloud, you’ll be able to create Confluence pages using templates, and convert these pages to blog posts.

Aligning editor shortcuts with Confluence Cloud

 For: END USERS

We're enhancing the editing experience in Confluence Data Center by aligning it with Confluence Cloud. This update aims to ease the transition if you have a dual license or are migrating between platforms. The new shortcuts include:

  • # to create headings. This replaces the current numbered list functionality.
  • > to create quotes
  • --- to insert a horizontal rule
  • - to create a circle bullet point instead of a square one
  • ⌘ + Enter on iOS or Ctrl + Enter on Windows to save a page or a comment

New REST APIs

For: ADMINS

Access more REST APIs to help you automate, script, and scale the following tasks:

  • monitor your Confluence cluster
  • get trash contents
  • update user details
  • get a list of users counting towards your Confluence license

See the REST API documentation for the new methods to use.

Default time zone setting in General configuration

For: ADMINS

We’ve added the option to adjust the default time zone for all users in the General Configuration screen. Changing this setting doesn't affect individual users who have customized their individual time zones.

Rotate your encryption keys like clockwork

For: ADMINS

Confluence already automatically encrypts plaintext secrets through default secrets encryption. Now, you can further protect your system through encryption key rotation. Use API calls to re-encrypt your existing secrets with a new key, and to manage your inactive keys. This extra security is available for both single-node and clustered environments.

Upgrade notes

There are no upgrade notes for this release.

Supported platforms changes

End of support for PostgreSQL 14 and MySQL 8.0

As previously announced, PostgreSQL 14 and MySQL 8.0 are no longer supported. To ensure ongoing database support, upgrade to the following:

  • PostgreSQL 15 or 16

  • MySQL 8.4

Check out the Supported Platforms page for the full list of supported databases.
