Introducing the Confluence Data Center connector for Rovo
For: END USERS ADMINS
The Confluence Data Center connector facilitates seamless data synchronization from Confluence Data Center to Rovo in Atlassian Cloud, allowing you to leverage Cloud-based AI capabilities without requiring a full migration to the Cloud.
With Rovo, you can centralize knowledge from various platforms, providing a unified view of search results from both Cloud and Data Center, as well as third-party tools like SharePoint and Slack. You can boost productivity with Rovo Chat’s AI-driven insights and personalized responses, all while maintaining your existing infrastructure.
Ready to get started with Atlassian Rovo? Contact our team for assistance.
If you already have a Rovo subscription, refer to this guide for step-by-step instructions on setting up the connector.
We’ll soon be launching a connector for Jira Data Center. Sign up for the upcoming Beta program here.
Secure app installations with app signing
For: ADMINS
To improve app security, we’re introducing a new feature that will restrict app installations to only those that are signed. This will help us to:
- ensure that apps are either from Atlassian Marketplace or manually uploaded by trusted partners
- prevent malicious actors from uploading harmful apps
App signing affects only new app installations, already installed apps will remain intact.
This feature will be gradually rolled out across Data Center products by mid-2025. For details, check out this community post.
In this release, app signing is disabled by default. The grace period will last until the next feature release of Universal Plugin Manager (UPM), after which app signing will be enabled by default.
Use the grace period to adapt your processes. The steps you need to take differ depending on whether you install applications from the Marketplace or build your custom applications.
Enable app signing and install from Marketplace
During the grace period, you can enable app signing at your convenience. To do so:
- Enable app signing. For details, see Configuring UPM app signature check.
- Download and install Certificate Authority (CA) from Atlassian. For details, see Updating Atlassian Certificate Bundles.
- That’s it! Enjoy the safe app installations from Marketplace.
Install custom apps
If you use custom application builds, you can sign and secure your apps:
- Enable app signing. For details, see Configuring UPM app signature check.
- Get the app signature and verification certificate as described in Generating app signature and verification certificate using OpenSSL.
- Put your new certificate in your Trust store as described in Updating Atlassian Certificate Bundles.
- Install the signed application.
You can also install the app via the file system without using the app signing feature.

Improved performance for adding Jira issue dates in Team Calendars
For: END USERS ADMINS
We’ve addressed a performance issue with a REST API call in Team Calendar when adding Jira issue dates. Previously, this API request might take a long time to return data for large Jira instances. This caused Confluence team calendars to fail with a timeout error when creating Jira events, Agile Sprints, and Project releases.
We've optimized the performance for the Project and JQL query options, ensuring faster response times and more reliable event creation. However, the Saved filter option might still be affected for Jira instances with many custom fields or issues. If you experience issues, use JQL instead.
App tunnels now bundled
For: ADMINS
The Application tunnels app is now bundled with Confluence Data Center. There is no need to install it separately from the Atlassian Marketplace; you will find it pre-installed under Administration > Application Tunnel.
Faster space deletion
For: ADMINS
In Confluence 9.1, we introduced the faster space deletion as a dark feature to improve the speed and scalability of the space deletion process, making it 10 to 50 times faster. After a space is deleted, admins can create a new one with the same name within seconds.
We’ve now enabled this feature, making it the default setting for Confluence 9.4 and later versions.
Admins can still deactivate the feature if you experience performance issues.
Configure OAuth 2.0 for outgoing mail
For: ADMINS
To enhance security and align with Microsoft's deprecation of Basic authentication in Exchange Online, Confluence now supports OAuth 2.0 for outgoing mail (SMTP). This update allows administrators to authenticate using the OAuth 2.0 profile directly from the system admin UI. For detailed steps, check Configuring a server for outgoing mail.
