This documentation is intended for Confluence developers who want to ensure that their existing plugins and add-ons are compatible with Confluence 6.11.

We plan to release weekly milestones during the development of Confluence 6.11. Watch this page to find out when a new milestone is available and what’s changed. We will publish formal release notes once we release a beta.

Changes in Confluence 6.11

Release Candidate 1 - 6 August 2018

The Confluence 6.11 engines are revved up and ready to go!

There are no significant changes in this release candidate.

Beta 1 -31 July 2018

In this beta we've:

  • Added support for Microsoft SQL Server 2017
  • Provided some information on a new diagnostics tool that we'll be continuing to work on over the next few releases.

For the full run-down on features in this release, head to Confluence 6.11.0-beta Release Notes

Milestone 53 - 24 July 2018

In this milestone we've added an upgrade task to disable the scheduled daily XML backup in sites with a Data Center license. This backup scheduled job has been known to cause outages in large sites. The scheduled job can be re-enabled if required.

There's no change to how this works for Server sites.

Milestone 41 - 16 July 2018

New supported database

We'll be adding support for Oracle 12c R2 in 6.11

A better way to edit files is coming

We’re currently working on a great new feature for editing and updating attached files. Users will be able to edit any file attached to a Confluence page using its native desktop application, and then automatically re-upload it to Confluence as a new version.

To be able to edit, users will need to download and install the Atlassian Companion app (also used for Confluence Cloud). Head to Edit files to read more about the companion app in our Cloud docs.

Edit with app will replace the existing Edit in Office option, which was provided by the Office Connector. This feature was limited to Microsoft Office files and only worked in a few browser and operating system combinations.

The changes are still dark in this milestone, but you can go to confluence-url/users/darkfeatures.action  and add the  edit.with.app  dark feature flag to try it out.

Document conversion sandbox

In Confluence 6.10 we introduced a new way to handle resource intensive tasks in a sandbox. Many of you have asked whether the sandbox approach will be available to add-ons (apps). The sandboxes aren't available for add-ons, but this is something we might consider doing in the future.

The sandbox is suitable for heavy lifting, or potentially unstable tasks which do not require direct access to the database, such as taking the contents of a page and turning into a PDF/DOC/HTML or other exportable format, creating image thumbnails from files, extracting text from documents.

We'd love to find out more about how you might use this approach, so raise an issue to tell us how it would be useful to your add-on.

Milestone 31 - 9 July 2018

No significant changes in this milestone.

Milestone 24 - 2 July 2018

This is our first public milestone for Confluence 6.11.

Editor TinyMCE upgrade is coming

As previously mentioned, we're currently working on upgrading the Confluence editor from TinyMCE version 3 to version 4.

We don't expect this upgrade to land in Confluence 6.11, but do encourage you to start testing your add-ons now. See How to test your app with the upgraded TinyMCE 4 editor in our developer documentation to find out what you need to do.
