24 November 2014

Atlassian is pleased to announce Confluence 5.7 milestone 22 (m22). This is the second public milestone release of Confluence 5.7.

This EAP (early access program) release is a snapshot of our work in progress, primarily focused on giving plugin developers an opportunity to test and fix their plugins in advance of an official release. Feel free to comment on the page if you want to provide any feedback or ask any questions.

Downloading Confluence

Development releases are not production ready. Development releases are snapshots of the ongoing Confluence development process. While we try to keep these releases stable, they have not undergone the same degree of testing as a full release, and could contain features that are incomplete or may change or be removed before the next full release.

No upgrade path. Because development releases represent work in progress, we cannot provide a supported upgrade path between development releases, or from any development release to a final release. You may not be able to migrate any data you store in a Confluence development release to a future Confluence release.

Atlassian does not provide support for development releases.

New in this milestone

For details of features released in the previous milestone see Confluence 5.7-m15 EAP Release Notes

Comment on pages inline

Confluence now has two types of commenting - page comments (that appear at the bottom of the page) and inline comments, which are perfect for reviewing a page, and collaborating with your team.

To add an inline comment highlight some text on the page, click  and start typing your comment. Along with all the usual comment options such as reply and like, a new resolve option allows you to hide comments from the page once they've been actioned. Go to Tools > Resolved comments if you need to view them again.

As part of our work on inline comments, we've updated the in-page notifications. They now appear on the top right of the page, and show both page and inline comments.

For developers: we're still finalizing the API for inline comments. The latest API is not included in this milestone.

More files improvements

We're continuing to improve how Confluence works with files. In this milestone we've got some great new goodies.

  • Preview PDFs
It's now possible to preview PDF files without leaving your page. Go to Insert > Files and Images to insert a link to an attached PDF file to your page.  When viewing the page, click the PDF link and the file will appear in the preview, there's no need to download the file first.
  • Upload a new version of a file
You can now upload a new version of an image or PDF file right from the file preview - even if the new version has a different file name.  Preview the image or PDF then click the Upload a new version  button.

Look and feel changes

We've made some small look and feel changes in this release. The main things you might notice are:

  • the search bar is now blue, and more subtle
  • the  menu now looks like this

For developers: this milestone contains an upgrade to AUI 5.7.12.

For developers

For more information on changes that may affect plugins see Preparing for Confluence 5.7 in our developer documentation.
