Atlassian is pleased to announce Confluence 5.7 milestone 15 (m15). This is the first public milestone release of Confluence 5.7.

This EAP (early access program) release is a snapshot of our work in progress, primarily focused on giving plugin developers an opportunity to test and fix their plugins in advance of an official release. Feel free to comment on the page if you want to provide any feedback or ask any questions.

Downloading Confluence

Development releases are not production ready. Development releases are snapshots of the ongoing Confluence development process. While we try to keep these releases stable, they have not undergone the same degree of testing as a full release, and could contain features that are incomplete or may change or be removed before the next full release.

No upgrade path. Because development releases represent work in progress, we cannot provide a supported upgrade path between development releases, or from any development release to a final release. You may not be able to migrate any data you store in a Confluence development release to a future Confluence release.

Atlassian does not provide support for development releases.

Highlights of this release

Roadmap Planner macro

Create simple, visual roadmaps that are great for projects, releases or just planning the year ahead with the new Roadmap Planner macro.

Lanes differentiate teams, products or stages, markers highlight milestones and important dates and bars indicate phases of work and provide links to more information.

To create a roadmap simply insert the macro, add some lanes, bars and markers then drag them to the right location.

New image preview experience

Viewing images attached to a page is quick and easy with the new preview. In the preview you can:

  • Download the attached file.
  • Zoom in, out or fit the image to the width of your browser.
  • See all images attached to the page and select a thumbnail to preview that image.
  • Browse through each image using the next and back buttons.

For developers: the existing fancybox preview has been deprecated.  Plugins can now use the new lightbox preview $imageLink.previewer({ src: srcOfImage });

Insert multiple files and images

We've changed how the Insert Images menu item works in the editor. It's now called Images and Files and allows you to select multiple files to upload and insert into your page.

You can upload any type of file, and see the progress of the upload.  Image files will be displayed on the page, while all other file types are inserted as a link to the attached file.

Confluence and HipChat integration

Is your team already using HipChat to collaborate? We've made it super easy to connect Confluence to HipChat.

In this milestone you get:

  • Easy integration -  go to  > General Configuration > HipChat Integration and click Integrate with HipChat.
  • Real-time notifications - send space notifications directly to your team or project's HipChat room.
  • Emoticons - use HipChat emoticons in pages and comments.

Lighter editor

We've given the editor a visual refresh. Page or blog titles and breadcrumbs now appear below the toolbar, and scroll with the page, meaning less wasted space when you’re editing.

Because the new-look editor saves so much space, we've removed the full screen editor view.

Smarter profile picture uploader

You can now resize and reposition your image when uploading a profile picture.

We've also removed the default profile pictures. People using a default picture will keep their picture, but the gallery of default pictures will no longer be available.

Live activity console

System administrators can now easily view the in-flight activity in their Confluence site. The live activity console tracks:

  • web requests
  • long running tasks
  • scheduled jobs

and allows system administrators to view, filter and export timing, thread and activity details. Go to  > General Configuration > Live Activity Console to see it in action.

For developers

For more information on changes that may affect plugins see Preparing for Confluence 5.7 in our developer documentation.
