From the Confluence team, with love. Atlassian presents Confluence 5.0-rc1 (Release Candidate 1). This release is a snapshot of our work in progress, primarily focused on allowing Confluence users to see the new features in advance. This also provides Atlassian with useful feedback. Beta releases also give add-on developers an opportunity to test and fix their plugins in advance of an official release.

Development releases are not production ready. Development releases are snapshots of the ongoing Confluence development process. While we try to keep these releases stable, they have not undergone the same degree of testing as a full release, and could contain features that are incomplete or may change or be removed before the next full release.

No upgrade path. Because development releases represent work in progress, we cannot provide a supported upgrade path between development releases, or from any development release to a final release. You may not be able to migrate any data you store in a Confluence development release to a future Confluence release.

Atlassian does not provide support for development releases.

Updates in Confluence 5.0-rc1

Please see the new features of Confluence 5.0 described in the Confluence 5.0-Beta2 Release Notes and the Confluence 5.0-Beta4 Release Notes. For add-on developers, please our developer guide to preparing for Confluence 5.0. In addition, Confluence 5.0-rc1 includes these improvements:

Improved configuration of site welcome message

You can now use a template to configure the top left section of the dashboard (the 'site welcome message'). This gives you the full power of the rich text editor to create the welcome message.

See the customized welcome message at top left of the dashboard, below. We have also added some 'get started' tips for Confluence administrators. These tips appear below the welcome message and are visible to administrators only. The 'get started' section is not configurable. You may also enjoy the new message and link to a video that appear on the right if the 'Popular' tab is empty.

Many small improvements

Confluence 5.0-rc1 contains many further improvements to the design of the application:

  • the forms in the setup wizard have been restyled in line with the Atlassian Design Guidelines (ADG)
  • the footer of the editor on small screens has been redesigned
  • tooltips in the header and editor have been replaced with the ADG tooltip style
  • many of Confluence built-in macros have been restyled to match the ADG
  • and many more!

Infrastructure changes

Confluence 5.0-rc1 includes the latest version of AUI 5.0.

Web item plugin modules which use the "system.space" section will now appear as tabs under Space Tools.

Upgrade Notes

The upgrade procedure and notes for Confluence 5.0-rc1 are the same as those for the recent Beta 2 release. Please refer to the Confluence 5.0-Beta2 Upgrade Notes.

A big thank you to everyone who helps us ensure that Confluence keeps getting better and better!
